The product description states its meaning: Effects Processor,
not as in the case with the KP3, Dynamic Effect/Sampler.
It's not the successor of KP3, more like a KP-mini on steroids.

I have a question for you:

Is it possible to import MS20 & Polysix programs from the Legacy Collection VSTi, or even better, connect and use the Legacy MS20 USB-controller with the MS20 in the KRONOS?

If samplebanks and multible sampletriggering are more important to you than sound-manipulation/creative mayhem, i'd go for the Roland SP-555.
The SP404 is cheaper, but have fewer pots/knobs, triggers etc. The SP-555=Live friendly, less Shift+PAD1-12, more hands-on, user-friendly.
