Why you don't use midiox to make a sysex dump of your patterns for back up purposes? You really don't need a memory card for the EMX.
Only if you own a ESX a memory card will make sense since sysex doesn't contains .wav or any other soundfiles.

Hello! Try this: Press SHIFT + PATTERN and Power up your EMX: Scroll Flash, N_Sys, DSP, USER, and PCM versions. Press: PART EDIT= Flash version STEP EDIT= N_Sys version SONG= USER version GLOBAL= PCM MIDI= DSP N_Sys shows the firmware version of the system, with v1.02 you are up to date. Greetz and ...
