Lorenzo has a point. Since you have a PayPal account, you can leave the money that is not needed until such time you need it again. Costs nothing.

Hello.

I’m not sure I understand. What Tax are you referring to ?.

Sure it would cost nothing to leave the money in a Pay Pal account, but it also means it’s dead money earning nothing. It also costs nothing to transfer money from Pay Pal to a bank account, and so long as it’s less than 10 grand, you can’t be taxed on it.

I know the interest in a savings account isn’t much, but we may as well get something extra for nothing.

I’ve actually already moved 1K to a bank account. This money is purely for Hosting fees and nothing else. This is our 100% grantee of 5 more years online.

I had intentions of then leaving the other 400 online and just using that for shopping. Most of the online stores that sell php stuff and other items deal with Pay Pal directly.

Regards.
Sharp.

I think the point is to leave people who want to help do so, even though you don't need any more right now.

My nephew (who is a web designer writes.........)

As far as we can tell this is very true for a 'forum' - they usually are free 'cause they dont cost much to run but yield a lot of benefits for companies, willing participants or not.

It does not cost much to run a forum where there is 7-10 or so regulars online at one time as IA/KF. If you look at the likes of Harmony Central though where there is 100 players online regularly it gives you some idea of REALITY. As a viewer and occasional poster here at Irish Acts it does put things into perspective.

Anywho my chequee is in the post.

This forum only plays a very small part in our monthly usage on bandwidth.
70+GB a month is what we where using on the old server and I expect that to go a lot higher on the new server under the new Korgforums.com name.

The download section is the money pit. We have the largest download section for Korg users anywhere on the NET. No other website even comes close.

All of which gets downloaded completely each time one new users finds us.

Kind Regards.

a fact which some people, seem to conveniently forget, or take for granted, or think downloads only affect their own download limits and costs...

Perhaps a solution is to share the files between different IA members and let new users download a bit torrent file ?

Torrents are good, but I think they are mainly an advantage when multiple people are downloading at the same time. I don't know to what extent this might be true of the download section here - I would guess at any given time there aren't too many people all downloading the same file at the same time.

A different situation was with the Propellerheads when they made ReBirth a free product. Their server was getting pounded absolutely to death, and making it available by torrent made a LOT of sense - the download then only took a few hours instead of a whole day or more, and a massive load was taken off their server.

On the upside - torrents can't hurt. If more than one person is downloading some file then it goes a lot faster and with less of a hit on the server. If only one person is downloading, then there's no real difference between the torrent and a straight download. In neither case would using a torrent cause problems.

From what I understand Torrent to be, you don't need to be downloading to share, so long as the file is "advertised" as available.

Yea - the thing with Torrents is there hhas to be someone seeding the file (like a server does).

I doubt anyone at anytime would be seeding all the files IA/KF serves.
