Midi Sequencer
1: PPQ of 480
2: Piano-Roll
3: More midi tracks
4: MIDI Time Code Sync
5: Position Cursor on Track Edit page is a vertical line (instead of a tiny triangle)
6: Groove Quantize: be able to extract the timing, velocity, and duration attributes from a 1-4 bar section of a MIDI track or pattern and impose those timing, velocity, and duration attributes onto another section of a track.
7: 8 locate points. Hold down locate and hit a drum pad to jump.
8: No limitations on Loop All Tracks (Loop All Tracks even in Multi-Record or during Audio Recording).
9: Nudge MIDI Event. On the event list screen it would be nice if we could select one or more events and use up/down buttons to nudge them in time, rather than entering a new Beat Tick value. Increments of 1 tick up to 1 bar. You could add a shift button to allow multiple event selection.
10: The “Shift Note” option needs to be extended to the Pattern Mode.
11: The “All Tracks” tick box needs to be extended to every relevant option. For example, if deleting a specific CC# number, there is no All Tracks option available.
12: The ability to get Pattern mode data to respond to chords would be nice.
13: Some kind of free textfield or data display (in all modes at best, but only in seq would be ok also), where you could write down some detailed comments to the song, lyrics or whatever or show/import a textfile with needed information
14: Better separation of automation data in the track display, maybe graphically, deeper explanation/editing features of sysex data
15: "Link Track Select to Control Surface" as global parameter, because I like this feature and it's annoying to set it every time you load or start a song.
16: Synchronize KARMA time signature to sequencer time signature. As example, you start a song in 4/4 and change subsequently to 7/4 and 5/4 and... KARMA always uses what you set or what is pre-programmed in the GE. I know, Stephen said it would be hard to code, but I think it would make the whole thing more consistent in design and usability
17: Even if the whole community likes to work with the piano roll, I hate it. I'd rather use note editing, so I suggest implementing some kind of interactive note sheet where you can put note by note in bars on lines
18: if you're in audio trim, have a vertical line sweep through the wave display to better see where you are
19: if you have more than one audio track in one track (multiple takes or so), overlaying each other, change the color of that bar in track display to clearly see where such overlapping areas exist
--> perhaps there could be one additional page where you only see one track, displayed the same way as in the overview page, but with additional information like displaying the track line in the upper half and the scrolling event list in the lower half of the screen to better see where you are.
20: The Cue List Function.
21: I'd love to see a lot of Drum Programming options to have more control over the individual parts (Kick, Snare, Hi-Hats, Congas, and Percussion) not ONLY in the sequencer but in Combi Mode as well.
22: WE WANT OUR PATTERN GRIDS BACK! And I'm reffering to the Triton Arpeggiators, but with the following improvements:
23: To have each note completely individualy controlled. In other words to separate the X-Axis and the Y-Axis completely so we have complete control over every one being programmed. And since the Triton had Dual Arps. Why not double that to four? I'm saying this because you don't always want to use KARMA. Sometimes you want a more basic approach. So by having 4 Arps you have complete control over the Drums, Bass, Riffs, and Comps and/or Guitar Strum Patterns. Oh and add Chord Recognition as well so when your doing a Minor 7th and you play a Major 7th Chord you won't hear a "wrong note." The Triton Arpeggios also had 32 steps which is 2 1/2 measures. I want to see this improved to 8 measures.
24: To step record actual chords using KARMA just by playing them on the keyboard or the pads. My Yamaha QY100 can do this and it's amazing! Lets you want to input a few chords into the Sequencer. You just play the chord in any variation and you specify the measure and resolution.
25: And speaking of Chords, on the Fantom-X there's a very cool Chord function where you can simply step-record your own chords and use those to do some sweet chord progressions. I want to see something like this on the O. The Pads are there and so is the keybed, but what if you don't want to use the pads or input the Chords on the Keyboard? Why not just step record them? And being able to assign different Chords to the keyboard in addition to the pads would be amazing as well.
26: Scoring capability would be a godsend for me as I can import MIDI Files and actually see the Notation and edit them right there, or in any of the Graphical Editors.
27: Add the capability to actually input Lyrics using a PS/2 Keyboard.
28: Drum Track Feature in the M3 that'll work with KARMA as well.
29: Triggering KARMA Patterns in RPPR would be amazing as well.
30: To use the KARMA Control Surface in realtime WHILE the Sequencer is playing.
31: And being able to edit tracks on the fly while the Sequencer is playing as well.
32: More Characters Please!
33: Realtime Time Stretching on Samples
34: And to retain Samples and sequences when turning the unit off. I REFUSE to sample for this reason ALONE! SNG files as I'm used to them are OK, but Samples are a HUUUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT!
35: Dynamic Tempo Automation: KARMA has a few GE's that speed up and slow down in Tempo. I'd like to see this work in conjunction with the Tempo. This would eliminate off-beat frustrations and keep everything more in sync.
36: A more Graphical representation of the Event Editor so we can have a better view of all the Sysex Data and to be able to edit them, all the recorded MIDI CC Assignments and Events, Volume, Pan, EQ Changes, Vector Movements, Effects. and Tone Adjust individually rather than seeing everything in a list form which is often VERY clunky and disorganized, IMO.
37: Also a way to Graphically view Automated Parameters when your recording Volume, Pan, MIDI CC Events and Assignments, Tone Adjust, EQ Changes, Vector Movements, and of course, Effects.
38: I also want to see Event Editing (both List and Graphical Modes) for multiple tracks so if the tracks are on the same MIDI channel, you can save a LOT of time by not having to edit the exact same thing more than once.
39: Matrix Editing so we can have a better representation of whats routed to what when we're recording.
40: Also, with KARMA, I'm starting to experience Track limitations in the Sequencer as well. More MIDI Tracks would be HUGE for me. The Roland MV-8800 by comparison can do 128 MIDI Tracks. I'd like to see this in the OASYS. And to be able to assign more than one MIDI channel to a single track, but to have each channel individually controlled would be HUGE as well.
41: For all the Graphical Editors, Matrix Editing, Additional MIDI Tracks, and simultaneous Track Editing, VGA Monitor PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse support for all the graphical editors. This is also HUGE for me. I'd love to have one unit as my DAW System that could outperform many of the stand alone production boxes out there such as the Roland MV-8800.
42: We need a HIGHER RESOLUTION! KARMA is VERY POORLY IMPLEMENTED in the Sequencer Mode for THIS REASON ALONE! This is BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to improve upon. If NOTHING else, we need the higher resolution and that would more than make up for all the limitations in the Sequencer Mode.
**********************************************************
HDR Section of the Sequencer
1: At least 8 Virtual Tracks for all 16 tracks.
2: Loop Record Mode that allows you to record a new take on each of the 8 Virtual Tracks.
3: Virtual Track Sequencing that allows you to snap to Virtual Tracks (for comping). Dynamic switching of Virtual Tracks.
4: Freeze capability that allows you to check off which MIDI / Audio tracks you want to freeze and bounces them through the LR Bus onto a stereo Audio Track pair.
5: Some way to reference bar and beat divisions while editing Audio Events. Currently when you edit Audio Events in the Trim Region window, you can't see the bar lines or really know which bar you are at. I love the Anchor Point concept, but need to see more timing references. Maybe if Allow Tempo is checked off you could display bar lines based on the tempo? Having a bar and beat division display based on the anchor point would let us more easily align the timing of the Audio Event. Have nudge buttons that shift the Anchor Point in time in units of samples and ticks/beats(for example: 1 sample up to 1000 samples or 1 sequencer tick up to 1 bar).
6: Playback song while in the Audio Event and Trim Region screens. Supports above issue.
7: Track Edit Screen:
A: When selecting an Audio Track, the header shows both the track name and the Audio Event name depending on the current song position. For example on Audio Track 1 with a track name of "Track 1": if my "verse 1 piano" audio event starts at bar 1 and ends at bar 9, then when the song position is anywhere in bar 1 through 8, the Header displays AT01: Track 1, verse 1 piano. Next I have my "chorus 1 guitar" audio event that starts at bar 9 and runs to bar 16. The Header displays AT01: Track 1, chorus 1 guitar when the song position is any where within bars 9-16. This gives users the ability to see which audio clips are playing back without resorting to fancy graphic displays.
B: Instead of displaying a redundant track number in the right, shift the whole thing over and show the track names on the left with the extra space. Selecting a track causes the track name font to double or triple in size.

Hi everyone.
I'm starting this thread in order to gather everyone's wish list for the sequencer in one place. So, please post your requests here, but also keep them as straight to the point as possible.
I will spend the time reading through everyone's wishes, extract them, and add them to the very first post in this thread. The idea being, KORG will have one place to look, and one main list of everyone thoughts to read.
Also... this should hopefully stop the spread of this sequencer issue turning up on every thread, as it's not doing us any favours lately.
So... by all means feel free to say whatever you want in this thread, but when it comes wishing for something to be added to the list. PLEASE.... make it as straight to the point as possible.
Kind Regards.
Sharp.

For reference this was posted into the thread which is now locked. I was also in the process of writing the Audio Event edit request more clearly when the thread got locked. See below:
My list of suggested improvement from my 18 months using the Oasys:
I also gave in and bought an MV-8800 a few months ago. It's a nice pair of instruments that complement each other well. With 1.3 we have such a killer bucket of sounds, but are missing the compositional environment to go with them. Count me as one who is very fed up with using PCs and Macs and wasting time configuring and troubleshooting. My most productive time was with my Ensoniq ASR-10 back in the 90's.
Sequencer:
1. MIDI Time Code Sync
2. Position Cursor on Track Edit page is a vertical line (instead of a tiny triangle)
3. Groove Quantize: be able to extract the timing, velocity, and duration attributes from a 1-4 bar section of a MIDI track or pattern and impose those timing, velocity, and duration attributes onto another section of a track.
4. 8 locate points. Hold down locate and hit a drum pad to jump.
5. No limitations on Loop All Tracks (Loop All Tracks even in Multi-Record or during Audio Recording).

4. Some way to reference bar and beat divisions while editing Audio Events. Currently when you edit Audio Events in the Trim Region window, you can't see the beat or bar lines or really know which beat or bar you are editing. I love the Anchor Point concept, but need to see more timing references. Maybe if Allow Tempo is checked off you could display a beat / bar grid based on the tempo? The sample editor currently displays beat divisions so I think this is possible.

General Workflow Enhancements:
1. Longer names capability in general. Cryptic 6 or 8 character names make working with the file system difficult.
2. Drum Pad Sets: The drum pads are one of the greatest things to work around a lack of sequencer editing. I like to set the same drum sound, hi-hats for example, to all 8 pads and have a range of velocities to program in expressive hi-hats in real time. If I had sets of Drum Pad assignments that are independant from a song, program, or combi, I could quickly switch between different drum sounds for more expressive programming. There are so many uses for the pads and having one setting per program is somewhat limiting.
Note: edited for clarity.

I will not add things which have already been written, only additions:
- some kind of free textfield or data display (in all modes at best, but only in seq would be ok also), where you could write down some detailed comments to the song, lyrics or whatever or show/import a textfile with needed information
- better separation of automation data in the track display, maybe graphically, deeper explanation/editing features of sysex data
- "Link Track Select to Control Surface" as global parameter, because I like this feature and it's annoying to set it every time you load or start a song.
- record KARMA trigger notes to tracks, not only the output of KARMA generation
- synchronize KARMA time signature to sequencer time signature. As example, you start a song in 4/4 and change subsequently to 7/4 and 5/4 and... KARMA always uses what you set or what is pre-programmed in the GE. I know, Stephen said it would be hard to code, but I think it would make the whole thing more consistent in design and usability
- Even if the whole community likes to work with the piano roll, I hate it. I'd rather use note editing, so I suggest implementing some kind of interactive note sheet where you can put note by note in bars on lines
- if you're in audio trim, have a vertical line sweep through the wave display to better see where you are
- if you have more than one audio track in one track (multiple takes or so), overlaying each other, change the color of that bar in track display to clearly see where such overlapping areas exist
--> perhaps there could be one additional page where you only see one track, displayed the same way as in the overview page, but with additional information like displaying the track line in the upper half and the scrolling event list in the lower half of the screen to better see where you are

Drum Grid Editor that coincides with the 8 pads so you can use them to Input a sound based on 16 Step grid each one represent a 16th steps(Or subdivision of that dependant on time sig and Quantize value) in a Bar,possibly utilising the "Function" button so you could switch between 2 sets of pad banks giving 16 steps(like the Electribe Pads and Roland TR drum machine methods)Makes creating beats far easier than the current step recording method(Possibly coupled with a dedicated Visual editor on screen) for those who have no experience of this method So if you wanted to create basic 4 kicks in bar pattern you'd press the Note on the keyboard to select the sound you want to trigger and then hit pad 1- 5 switch the bank of buttons over and press-9-13
or you could do it the Quasimidi Way and assign a sound to the Pad and then use the first 16 Keys of the keyboard to select the subdivision in the bar, using a further key sections of 16 notes upwards to represent further bars
Cue List would be useful as already said, but to advance on the Cue list, the ability to use the 8 pads again in the sequencer mode and assign a set amount of measures in a song to the Pads and select a section or group of tracks in those measures,so you could use the Pads to play a section of your arrangement,Like a Multi track Pattern you could then sketch out your arrangment or play it in realtime so you could alter the arrangment for different sets or song improvs.or use it to jam
You could then have this to input your song structure in step time, moving the Locator positions and pressing the pad who corresponds to the song structure at the given measure and press enter, thus Pasting the track data contained in that group into its track at the measure point, kind of like being able to cut and paste several tracks in one go or using Groups in Cubase
More sequencer tracks but with multi Midi Output support, via the USB outs to run other Midi interfaces as the Oasys hardware supports only One midi out makes this impossible unless supported via USB ( possibly up to 96 Channel support???(4usb-and standard Midi out)
Although the Screen is pretty nice,it would be nice for the VGA out thats already Fitted to be incorporated with external Displays to allow mouse control??for the sequencer and the ability to drag and drop etc with the Patterns and track/Audio data
If you record a Karma drum groove(Or any drum groove) into a track the ability to seperate the instruments by pitch Putting each seperate drum sound on its own track(This is where having more than 16 Midi track support would be useful.)
When you start up the Oasys the last song/Sequence or bank of songs you had in memory was Loaded automatically, you could save this in the Global settings so if you didn't want it you could disable it.
Most of what I would like to see added has been already mentioned.

You do realize that you're gonna have a lot of work in moderating this, Sharpy boy?
That being said, hats off to you for the effort. Maybe you should really cut and paste all of the segments related to the topic into one huge request list, without any unnecessary comments? Since there are a lot of suggestions, maybe that would make things tidier...

Great idea, Sharp. Now, I guess, vEddy's suggestion also is a good one. You need someone to monitor and collate all the ideas into a condensed format. Maybe one or more of those who have been quite keen in asking for a sequencer update could volunteer to help in this regard, somewhat like a special sequencer focus group willing to synthesize (no pun intended) the various suggestions made. My expertise lies elsewhere so, I can't volunteer for this. Good luck all.

Great topic, work well done!

In comparison with some of these, my wish is so simple, I fear that it's too easy to overlook.
I want the Preferences to be saved with power-down, so that they load up next time on power-up, and apply to all new songs, even new songs created with "Enter + Rec" instant record.
Why? I often like to improvise without any click or time reference whatsoever. After pressing "Enter+Rec", I must press several more buttons to stop the metronome ticking, and even to stop the metronome two-bar count-in. My train of thought is lost and the moment gone in either case (either hearing the metronome in the wrong tempo, or needing to access another screen and more buttons).
Such a simple thing would make me very happy....
There's probably other good reasons to customize the sequencer more by being able to save Preferences.

You're SO right!!!!! The ability to turn of the metronome in general would be awsome!jg:: wrote:In comparison with some of these, my wish is so simple, I fear that it's too easy to overlook.

To my knowledge you just have to press the "Record" button on the sequencer once to stop the metronom clicking after "Enter+Rec/Write". But of course the rest of the work remains if you want the metronom be shut up ...
I wish for independent "From/To" values within the viewing screen on the track edit page and operations performed via the menu. Eg. if you use "Copy Measure" and set it to "From Bar 1 to 8" the same values are automatically put into the track-edit-viewer. Sometimes this might be handy - but very often it just confuses me and I have to readjust the values in the screen each time I perfomed an operation in order to see the songparts I'm working on.

That's definitely right, the metronome stops, BUT you can't record alsoCharlie wrote:To my knowledge you just have to press the "Record" button on the sequencer once to stop the metronom clicking after "Enter+Rec/Write". Turning on the metronome later on a per-song basis when the main work begins would be definitely more convenient for me.
- Having the time stretch function for audio tracks work more intuitive: Set the new song tempo and have the system ask you what to do with which track or, even better, real-time processing, although I understand that this would cost a huge amount of processing power and wouldn't even be possible, but a nice wish
