PCM load time - NEWS!
Hello,
in this moment I got news from KORG Germany:
PA2Xpro:
loading 128MB WITH PCM AUTOLOAD lasts 400sec (6:40)
loading 128MB seperately (after booting) lasts 280 sec (4:40)
regards
Jürgen

@ dragoncaz
but if 256MB last about 9 Minutes in "seperate loading",
this is very much shorter than everyone expects!
by the way: 256MB is really a lot!
@ thomas
they only tested the PA2Xpro,
I think ist the half time for PA800, but I will check it out
if 9 Drawbars will be possible, I can't say. So have to wait...

It looks from the measurements Jürgen has taken on the Pa2x that the data transfer rate for loading samples is approximately twice that of that on the Pa1x. A worthwhile improvement.
Pa1x, loading 32M samples at boot time = 135 seconds
Pa2x, loading 32M samples after boot time = 70 seconds (ie 280 sec / 4)
I was surprised from Jürgen's measurements that the PA2x is 30% faster loading samples manually, compared with using PCM autoload. It's the other way round on the Pa1x - which is at least 30% faster using PCM autoload compared with loading samples manually.
Jürgen, why is PCM autoload on the Pa2x slower than the manual load process?
Best regards,
Rob

I mean if my set is once ok, i heave loaded al samples, and i turn of, than i take my PA2 X out for gig, and do i heave to wait after boot OS like 5 minits?
Hope all undarstand my Q!
I play evry friday, on a restaurant like bar pianist entertainer, do i heave to load evrytime my sample sound based SET in to PA2X, or if i maded all clear for using on a set, than it takes like 90 seq, to begin start playing?

Load times for a New Roland Rack Module.
Hi, I just purchased a Fantom XR Module which has room for 528MB of ram, and the Load time for a File 230MB 'The only file I have to load in' takes 8mins. Which I think is OK. If a new Korg PA2X PRO had that much memory to play with, even taking 16mins for 500MB, would for me be still OK. Pretty much everything on the market, at present for the Korg could be loaded into 500mb's, meaning eveything Sharp sells, and most other people's Piano's and Organ Sounds, and then not having to choose between one or the other, as all sounds could be loaded at once.

Dear Alan, i men it would be much better if we can load this in 1 minute.
I had another KB, And there was 16 mb of sample ram, Always samples ready when boot up.
No load no nothing, And that KB , is 7 years old.
Now 2007 i expect better things from the manufacturers.
Best reg

Yes Asena - I think all current keyboards should have non-volatile sample RAM at least. Even if load times are a bit slow previously loaded samples would remain in RAM after power off. Maybe manufacturers will install up-to-date processors, memory technology and effective caching so that we can perform with more confidence.
Cheers

YOOO, Hi KARMA.
Hope you are ok.
Thats what i try to say here.
If you read my posts here, i Always talk about this, And my friend TASCONE heave posted great compliments and ideas, But we always searching for free things like Samples styles and sounds, Not how to make this KB better for live perf.
Just think, you are playing on a wedding, the electric goes of, than you must load al the set in again!
Thats not acceptable for the listeners, and specialy not for the wedding people.
That day is a important day, you can not just explain that KORG not installed backed ram bla bla bla...
So what can we do instead?
Play MP 3,s from a Laptop?
Are we not live band?
Is this future BACKED RAM, so expensive to put in on PAX,s.?
Is the market not on time for this?
I,m confused!
So whats the next gen of KB,s loading time?
Are they planning to make money from this(FOR SURE)!
Next gen KB, no loading time, Backed ram(OLD TECH)
10 inch color LCD
1 GB RAM; (FOR WHAT?)
Reading PDF & TEXT FILES) FOR WHAT?
AND OF COURSE 4000:- Euros.
AND THEY ALSO GIVE US FREE Sample sounds from 1989.
Realy man, i,m confused.
I maybe thinking to buy another brand, like LIONTRACKS or other , Maybee GEM, Solton, i dunno!
KORG makes me stupid some times.
I love the sound, styles and many other things, but i,m old in this bussines, so i love to make my own styles, whit dirty sample drums, basses from Baselines, Riffs from NORDLEAD,s pads from AKAI, Strins from KURZWEIL, Pianos from SAMPLE DVD,s an so and so, so no limits for me whit loading time and just 32 MB, Or 64 MB.
Now we heave this KB, 256 MB, its great, but why load time?
And if so, why 12/15 minutes.
I was told that we just load onece, and than its there when it boots, Like PA800!
Is that not the same for PA2X?
I just wonder and i hope i,m not wrong!
Waiting for more detailed replays.
THANX AL.

The Korg "built in" samples are stored in ROM, and are instantly available, but they are not re-programmable. For reprogrammable sound samples a memory solution with an access time per 16-bit sample of 70 nS or less has to be used. D-RAM chips are fast enough but do not preserve their contents when you turn power off. As Pete suggested, a battery-backed RAM solution may be an answer. Does anyone know of any sampling keyboards that use battery backed RAM?
Thanks,
Rob
