newbie question re: PRODUCER.PCG

Post by jimmied999 »

Hey guys - great forum. Another stoked M3-73 newbie here.

Gotta question about the PRODUCER.PCG file update on Korg.com. On one hand it makes sense to group all the sounds within a category (like the Alesis QS keyboards I cut my teeth on), however, there seems to be a downside:

"Note: When PRODUCER.PCG is loaded, the factory demo songs, Preset Template Songs, and any user Combination or Song data created with the Program data from Preload PCG will not sound properly."

I'd like to have those Template Songs available to me going forward - do we have the ability to re-map the sounds in the Template Songs after the PRODUCER.PCG update? Is this worth the hassle?

Well, the ability to browse sounds by category reduces the need for grouping the sounds in the banks, and doesn't make it worth the hassle for me at least.

Moreover, using "producer" will change the mapping number/program and will then cut you the possibility to download combis made by different user. Most people indeed use the basic ordnance. If you download a combi, program number will lead you to wrong program.
keep basic pcg!

Great points, thanks to you both. I'll stick with the original lineup of progs and just use the screen to browse by category.
