Please help me.
I thought I'd post a general thread for anyone who is or will be struggling with confidence, either inspirationally, or technically or simply feeling discouraged. Songwrting and producing is the extreme highs and lows. And while we can rave about each others songs, it bears mentioning that we all understand the pain and anguish that can accompany these challenges. We are here to support each other in whatever way is necessary. So please post your comments or problems here if you feel it may help to simply vent or ask for help. We don't want to lose anyone here. If we're strict with the deadlines it's to push and not to make it more difficult. I wonder how everyone else is coming who haven't posted songs yet. Is there anything we can do to help?

I'm so glad to see this topic George. You're an absolute star.
I must admit I was close to giving up on this venture, due to having hardly any time to spend on the music for the past 2 weeks. I also face huge technical battles all the time, being a piano player with no prior knowledge of synths before my TC.
I see others posting songs that sound really excellent to me, and read replies filled with technical suggestions for improvement. My replies/comments are a bit like the "good job, have a nice day" that Jon Solo mentioned elsewhere.....I'm certainly restricted in how much I can contribute, however willing I am to listen to everyone's songs.
So I won't quit, even if I might be the group dummy
, and hope to still learn heaps from all of you. That's if that's okay with you all.
Regards from
Dee

Sticky it!
...well the section "songwriting - lyrics and collaboration" should already be full of good tricks...
BTW, I'm sure this thread will be the right place to find an inspiration, or a kind word, or anything that will raise up from a bad moment (in music and/or in life).

Dee, first of all, I do not accept your role here as the "dummy." That would suggest you have nothing to offer the group. We each bring to this what we can contribute. For me, I would enjoy your comments on my pieces, if not so much technical, more on the arrangements or the lyrics or how it makes you feel. I'm sure you're an avid music lover or you wouldn't be in here. If your mastering skills are limited then comment on how our songs make you feel. And as for your own pieces, you just do your best. First of all, you should take full advantage of the acceptance and support from this group. This is not a competition against each other. It's a personal challenge we have all signed on to take. It's much like my story arts class I used to take, and we had to bring 3 pages of something written each week, and sometimes I was terrified to read as I thought it was awful. But in the long run it made me a way better writer, which I now use in my song lyrics. So if you feel you're lacking in one area but are good in another, then work on your strengths. Take this opportunity, set clear goals in your own mind for what you want this year to help you achieve and then don't look back. Reach out here when necessary and let the fun begin!

I am in the exact opposite situation to you ... I could comment on the tech stuff all day, but not really comment with any real authority on musical issues, as I am totally self taught (LOL I still call all the black notes sharp etc.).Dee wrote:I see others posting songs that sound really excellent to me, and read replies filled with technical suggestions for improvement. So I am rather glad to have folks like yourself and Ellll to hand, who are (in my mind) proper musicians ... it balances things up.
Daz.
By the way...
Someone did ask why I always use the little "rollin' eyes" emoticon.. It's because he is SO cute...!! (Or is it a she??) Even Sharp's intro of giant emoticons didn't change how I love the little guy...
I remember so well...jus' like yesterday...I was just a little boy myself...and every time I played my piano piece for the week, It's EXACTLY what my teachers eyes would do...It was So nice...!!..'Course I have no idea what it means.....

Wouldn't it more politically correct to refer to them as "African-American" notes? Oh yea, most of the keyboards here are not even in the US. Maybe "Italian" and "non-Italian" keys?
Rats, I should have given you guys a bad joke warning.
Can anyone tell I am in my manic phase? LOTS of music to come. ha ha ha

Hello to all,
So much has been written here since the last time I looked.
Black and white, ebony and ivory....quite appropriate today in Australia - it's "Sorry Day" today. Our new prime minister apologised officially to the aborigines for the wrongs done to them in the past - a huge event here.
And...
Thanks for all the offers of help from ellll, Stephen, Daz, George and...... Dr Who, who, by the way, was the one who told me about Event Edit one day back in 2005, which really changed my life dramatically. Don't know how I never learnt about that from my TC User manuals (a great mystery
), but WOW it really helped me.
You wrote some very wise words George - you always make so much sense.
Hey Daz! Funny you should say that about thinking us classical-buffs are 'real' musicians..........I disagree and think that people who write intuitively and 'by ear' are by far the REAL musicians.
Kind regards,
Dee
