problem converting korg songs to audio file

Post by ocw1125 »

Using the sequencer and cue list on my Triton Classic, I create a song. Then I plug from the mono output through a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter through the microphone jack in my laptop. I use Adobe Audition to record the audio as a wave file. I did it two weeks ago and it worked fine. Now when I do it, there is excessive static.

I got a new cable and adapter. I tested recording with a microphone. There was no static when I plugged head phones into the output in the back of the keyboard. Nothing indicates a solution. Any ideas? or is there a better way to get a .sng to a wave or mp3 file?

I cannot state this for sure without knowing more about your laptop. However, if you are running a mono signal out of your keyboard into a cable that is mono into your laptop, it is recording it at a MIC level. This is a signal boosted method and can overdrive the signal which should only be recorded at LINE level.

The way to do this with MANY laptops is to use a 1/8th stereo cable. Once the stereo cable is plugged in, the computer detects that the plug is not a mono MIC cable but rather a stereo LINE cable. It reduces the level to properly not distort.

You may have damaged the input by overdriving the signal. But I doubt it.

Alternatively, check your recording level and see if there is a -20dB box that you can check to reduce the signal (or vice versa with a + box).
