Pa800 Songbook Question

Post by Rob Sherratt »

I wondered if anyone would be so kind as to send me by email a copy of the latest factory standard Pa800 songbook? I'd like to check to see if it's the same songs and styles as on the Pa1x. If it is, then a new version is available with all the cryptic entries translated, and I'll send you the download link later.

Best regards,
Rob

Is there a link to the Pa800 songbook with titles that make sense (real titles)?

Hi Stan,

I think I have an answer for you. Booby, Joseph and I expanded all the 350 entries in the Pa1x Songbook so they were the correct titles and artists plus key signatures, and posted an updated songbook to the Pa1x site.

I'm willing to make this available to Pa800 users, but only after checking compatibility first. Hence my request for someone with a Pa800 to email me a copy of the factory songbook so I can check it. Noone has replied yet ... so maybe you can mail me a copy ? :-)

Cheers,
Rob

Hello Fahim,

Thanks for your offer of help. Heres what to do to save your SONGBOOK to USB pen drive (although you could save it to HD or CD/RW as well):
  • Plug in a USB pen drive to the Pa800
Press the Disk button, select the "Save" tab, select USB in the bottom left corner.
Touch "New SET" on the screen
Name the file Pa800Songbook.SET using the alphanumeric pop up keyboard.
    Touch "SAVE" on the screen
A pop up box appears with many check mark options. Ensure that only the "SONGBOOK" option is ticked.
    Touch "OK" on the screen.
Then plug your USB pen drive into your PC, and please send the file to me as an email attachment.
Many thanks,
Rob

Yes...that is my question too. How exactly do you save it, and send it.
Thanks for the answer. I will try it too.

Hope my instructions were correct, they are based on what I do on the Pa1x, and there may be slight differences due to improvements on the Pa800. It would be great to receive two Pa800 songbooks in my email :)

Believe me I sympathise. Last time I visited my employer and colleagues in Palo Alto, it took me 4 hours to drive 15 miles. I'm not surprised there are so many joggers in California :-)

Hello,

Thanks a lot to Fahim for sending me your Pa800 Songbook.

I've compared this to the standard Songbook on the Pa1x, and I'm sorry to report that the two sets of Songbook data are not compatible. The reason is that on the Pa800, the ordering of the style bank and program change numbers is different from that on the Pa1x. However most of the song names are the same.

Across in Pa1x land we have decoded the Songbook and worked out what the "correct" song titles and artist names should be.

If any Pa800 owner would like to use the PC based Songbook editor to create a Pa800 version of a "corrected songbook", to benefit all Pa800 users, I can tell you what needs to be done and will of course send you the list of correct answers!

Best regards,
Rob

Rob

Did you get anyone to do this? If you send me the details of how to do it - I will try and sort it for you.

The reason I am here is that I have a Songbook question. Is it possible to play the songs as in sequencer or are they just styles for you to play the song on the keyboard?

Keith

Edit - Sort of found the answer:
Songbook feature lets you create a searchable database of your
Performance settings- by title, artist, tempo, key- and instantly
recall one to recreate that song. A SongBook entry can also be a
MIDI file on a USB PenDrive!

Does this mean I have to obtain the midi file.

Hi Keith,

I think Rikki may have done it for Pa800, you could ask him. I will wait until a few weeks time for my Pa2x to arrive, then no doubt I will get round to converting it anyway. Songbook entries can link to Performances (including Styles and STS's stored in the Performance) or to Songs (ie SMF files) stored on Disk. or Pen Drive The Korg Songbook entries are all Performances, but you can add your own entries to link to SMF files whenever you want. You will have to have the SMF file for a Song before you can link to it ... Korg do not supply these SMF files due to copyright restrictions.

Hi Rob,
not sure if you're referring to me?? ( you probably haven't realized I'm a SHE not a he haahaa)

I actually haven't done anything as far as Songbooks are concerned. I find the Cryptic titles a nightmare.
If there's anything you could send, I'd be happy to take a look at it & see if I could alter them for the PA800. If I can do it, I'll let you know, so we don't double up on the work & I'm happy to share as always. Even if I can't do all of it, I may at least be able to get it started.

Hi Rikki,

Sorry to have given you a sex change, hope you'll forgive me :-)

The latest info on customized Songbooks, including available downloads is here, Dreamer converted some entries but ran out of steam I think. If you are going to do the work you need to start with a spreadsheet that maps the Performance Bank and PC numbers for equivalent Performances from the Pa1x to the Pa800. You can derive this from the user manuals.
