I have never heard grain in digital. Now analog...yes all the time. Digital sounds metallic to me. It is hard to get it warm and grainy.

Just when I think I got it, I go to a friends house and hear vinyl and am shot in the arm.

Hey Jon,

Good point about the vinyl indeed!!! I have done some with some friends recently, as well as old tapes and WIRE...(wire recorder...pre WWII or Korea...can't remember for sure...) We have restored some vinyl and shellac that was really bad...to archival level...This was at the college where I taught a few classes...Now all they have to worry about is the now well pub. breakdown of digital discs from age...!!!

The really good vinyl like the best Dutche. and Command, etc..is so WONDERFUL in sound..and to get early stereo done well and remove ALL the scratch without appre. loss...Its GREAT!! I have done pretty well here at my house, actually, with a commercial Radio Station turntable (Sony..) and Audacity as the "cleaner"..as I have the major files for it downloaded....works really well!!!

Really kiddin' about the sand...Its in my ears...or more likely my brain...is where it is..from too much! Ear muscles give out too, they tell us, from stress  ...!

Best Regards, ellll:roll:

Hey, I take it your friend has new vinyl???

I have a high-end friend here who pays thousands for a tone arm...and multi thoudands for a turntable...(I never asked about the custom Polk's...I was afraid to...), but...he's got it so you know what they say...Vinyl disc near $200 and up....

Some cats got it; some cats aint......)

Best..ellll

Believe it or not, many artists are still releasing things on vinyl. No, you can't shop at a record store, but a number of DJ friends have "connections" as it were to vinyl.

The only downside is that modern recordings still take place in the digital domain for the most part. And while there are analog cross-overs it is not the same as 15/30ips 1" tape. My old Otari 16 track was warm till the day it gave on me. Now I have to "trick" my recordings to sound warm.

So you get a break on some new stuff...??,

But I, also, had understood that dig. was taking over to some point in even high-end vinyl....Guess it is just gonna be....

I also had fine recorders when younger (and, I hope not wiser...),...and used them for classical...but all my school work was recorded for me by the school, with just a few exceptions....I sold all my stuff...inc Mac amp...and orig Moog, few items of Marantz..that I got already old from a store-owner friend..all gone now except a few pieces of junk in the attic.....

Today is the first day of the...well..you know the drill...It just seems some things were better in earlier times....

Best!! ellll:D

Another, if you friends will take a look....,

I wish to use about ..two...., famous bars of music from the pop field...a one time ."Leitmotiv" ..if you please, not woven into the music other than the one time......as a storyteller, an "identifier" ...not really uncommon...but I have never done it...The song is in no way built on it...the other melodies are mine..and besides, I'll not be selling anything again...thats over...I probably still need permission???

What think you????? ellll

I would say go for it. There would be no mechanical rights associated since there is no money changing hands. And if you claimed it was a parody, then there would be nothing they could do anyway.

Now...if you sampled it...that is a different story. SR rights.

Ooo. Kay...,

'Course this has been asked enough times for us all in the past...but one more time....:

I "DO" need speakers....The music world doesn't always stay in a little box. I would like to find the ones more inclined to take my heavy handed amps, and still sound top of the line for my bad FX choices...as well... :? :? Oh..thats a tall order??...Hummmmm.

Well, just some choices in the diff. price ranges...roughly...I know they won't make a decent soundman out of me...but they should help..

My Bose are giving out...and I don't know if I want to rebuild them...(But I do have one of the best right in my home town...Pro Tech..) ...They have rebuilt museum quality to hugh custom 60's--70's high dollar...so they are good..

Thanks!!! John :)

And,

This is the point where those of us unschooled by experience..(ALWAYS a good teacher..) in the worlds most popular instrument (after the piano), ask, "how can you do that on the synth".... :? (This in ref. to comments between Stephen and Dee yesterday, about the playing of the most popular (?) instrument...)

I AM working (in secret  ) on a popular type song...but it will have piano, not guitar, unless something breaks... I KNOW in myself how it should sound; I am a fan of the guitar..I just don't see how it can be duplicated on a computer, but I also KNOW..it is done...and I cannot do it on the O1W...

Comments...or directions to forum or outside sources...?...

Edit..it will try to be guitar now..(29th)

My Very Best!!! :D ellll :D )

The "best bang for the buck" in nearfield monitors seem to be M Audio, KRK, Event, Yamaha, and some that just don't come to mind right now.
I use M Audio BX5A;

This looks to good to be true; http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sales_ ... id=7078508

If price was no object I would look at the Genelec line.

Is it acceptable under the guidelines for OSAM for us to remake one of our own songs?

I have a song that is written and produced...however, I was never completely happy with the theme, and so it would call for a new lyric rewrite, as well as updating the arrangement. In fact some of the aspects of the song would change...perhaps to the degree that, while recognizable, it essentially is a new song (the melody would NOT change however). And I would like to redo it.

Either way it will be redone. I was just wondering if it was submittable.

And I have started April's track too!
