Geico caveman song sound Instrument ?

Post by kenackr »

Just wondering if anyone out there has heard the Gieco Car insurance TV ad with the caveman on a people mover in an airport going by a poster of a caveman and can identify the instrument used for the song that plays.

It's a very "liquid" sound and almost drop like in nature. I think of lemon drops when I hear it.

More to the point, does any one know how to reproduce it on the "O"?

Thanks for identifying the tune !

Even though I run a mac for video and some audio, I've never had the need or desire for iTunes. But this may change in this case to capture the sound. If nothing else I could sample it, if I can't recreate it on the O.

Sounds fairly easy to reproduce... I'd start with a flute, add a hard attack, and add a little on the 22nd (two octaves up) to make it a little brighter. (This is the freq. of the top drawbar on a Hammond, which I am overly partial to using.) If you are trying to completely duplicate the original though, leave the whole 22nd deal out.

Mess with filters on that flute sound and get it to sound like the sustain part of the patch...

Now on another layer take a steel drum sound and cuts it off shortly after the attack. The attack of that sound has a steel drum characteristic to it if you ask me... That's the first thing I thought of when I heard it.

I'm not in front of the Oasys right now though so when I get back I'll try to duplicate it and interweb it up to here if I get it good.

Ryan,

Thanks ! I didn't think of a steel drum but now that you say it, you may be right.

Glad I could help a bit. I have currently programmed a sound that has the same attack (at least to me) but the sustained part is more of a sine than flute.
