USB audio interface

Post by zack »

Would someone be willing to recommend an entry level USB audio/midi interface to use between my TR88 and computer?

I have been recording directly from the TR using the line in on my computer and the onboard sound card. The results are pretty bad on playback through the computer.

I am hoping a new interface will improve the sound quality.

There will usually be no other inputs besides the TR. Perhaps occasionally a guitar input.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

E-mu and M-audio have some good affordable ones. I'm using an E-mu 0404 USB myself which works well.

Is the E-mu 0404 USB easy to set up?
I don't want anything too complicated.

I like the M-audio Fast Track Pro, which is a 4in x 4out box.

You'll need an input box with at least 4 inputs if you want the ability to record all 4 of the TR outputs.

Although I don't have one (yet), the research I've done on the Tascam US 1641 seems to be very positive. If you plan on doing recording with other musicians, this would be the ticket. It may be a little more complicated at first, but if you can deal with the Korg manual, you can deal with anything.
