Trying to control drums via electronic kit...
Hi I have a yamaha dt explorer and im trying to use it as a control surface for the electribe, but i cant seem to get any sound, i have been changing the midi channel and the note values to what they should be and still nothing, i also tried to connect my midi keyboard just to control the keyboard parts and got nothing out of that, any ideas are welcome!

Check that the electribe is not filtering midi (this is for the emx and esx, i dont know about the others). While stopped, press GLOBAL and then Shift-15 for Midi Utility. The display will light up with 'MIDI Filter', press 15 to confirm. Rotate the dial so you have oooo to get no filtering at all (see manual for other settings). Press 15 to save changes.hezza wrote:Hi I have a yamaha dt explorer and im trying to use it as a control surface for the electribe, but i cant seem to get any sound, i have been changing the midi channel and the note values to what they should be and still nothing, i also tried to connect my midi keyboard just to control the keyboard parts and got nothing out of that, any ideas are welcome!

i hav the same problem with my kit too . The parts keys flash indicating triggering , but there is no sound whatsoever , yet my es-1 works fine when triggered from my kit ( which feels great let me just mention , sorry man ) .
Ive tried many things to trigger the sounds from emx1 , but i think the only option may be to hook up a pc for better filtering of midi information .
it is strange tho cos my controller keybrd hits the drums no problems !!??
I really hope someone can help further on this

Could it also be that the note length is super short?reddone wrote:im pretty good with midi n tried everything i could think of , note numbers included ... but i get no sounds . it seems like there is no velocity message being read or sumthin , considering the buttons flash its the only explanation i could think of .
its a real pain in the arse
I believe the emx sends a note on with a velocity of 0 instead of a note off event, so I'd bet that it's velocity related alright. Perhaps you can look into the explorers midi sending options to see if there is a gate time or something. You could try send the midi into a computer and log it to study what just got sent
Doesn't explain why driving the emx with an external keyboard isn't working though.
keyboard working but still nothing with the drums
the explorer dusnt have setttings for the midi signal, its quite basic as fars as midi is concerned, it only has a midi out port.
I got the keyboard working, but still nothing with the drums, is there any other settings for controlling the drums externally? i mean i have it just set on pattern, is that right?

one thing I know about the electribes is that they are one octave off relative to ableton live. So when you record say c2 into ableton it's actually c3... or c1 I can't remember. Same goes for trigger finger. Try dropping the midi note on messages by an octave if that doesn't work, jack it up an octave.
Most midi gear should respond properly to note on messages... I've sent a large variety to the electribes and they all work fine.
