New Piano Sound Set Now comes with Mono Piano

Post by Reuben »

If you occasionally find yourself stuck with mono equipment such as a single monitor or the sound desk can only spare one line - here is a solution for you. This latest Piano Sound Set has all the stereo sounds of the MCH08.Set plus an extra page (8 more pianos) optimised for Mono Systems.
Stereo sampled pianos are notorious for sounding bad through mono equipment due to phasing issues - the left and right channels often badly interacting in their summing leaving some notes sounding weak. The factory Grand Piano does this in the middle range area when played thru mono equipment.
If you have ever tried using the Korg factory mono piano (Acoustic Piano GM) you probably noticed its lack of expression as well as the weakness in the higher range. For some reason Korg only uses the left channel all the way up the keyboard. Notes beyond B4 are pathetically weak. In this new set I've added expression through 6 levels of filtering and switch from Left to Right samples beyond B4 (the b above middle c). Iv'e also altered the envelope a little. The result was very pleasing to the ear.
In this new set I have also tweaked just a little the envelope of the modified Korg Grand Touch pianos to give them a more natural decay.
If you've got the MCH08 set and you load this new set you will find all the pianos on pages 1 & 2 are still there with some minor improvements. The new set will add a third page of mono pianos (both RX and non RX versions.)
Here is the download link:
http://rapidshare.com/files/111850651/M ... T.zip.html
Choose the free download option and type in the code supplied by rapidshare. Once it has downloaded you need to unzip the file to obtain the MAY2008PIANOS.SET folder. After backing up your Pa1x, copy the folder to your Pa1x harddrive and load it. They will load to the first 3 pages of User 1.
Total ram usage is 15mb - from the Korg Grand Touch set - all other sounds come from the factory pianos.
This could well be the last posting of pianos I make as I am now happy with them - so if you think you might need them - grab a copy while you can.
Hope you enjoy.

Thank you kindly John,

I'm downloading right now and will have a listen. I'm sure this addition will be as good as your other pianos, very pleasant to play with.

Regards, Admar.

PS - The rapidshare site has changed a little - after choosing the Free download option use the "Download via level xxx" button - its a little confusinig but you do not need to pay!.

Dear John, (*heh* always wanted to use that gag online) thank you once again for your work and generosity - I am truly flabbergasted.

You will be MOST interested to know MY experiences with this set of samples as I only work with Mono equipment.

I'm err...."stuck" with it, as you put it, by choice. It's the Bose Personal Amplification System, and it's downright wonderful for our needs (Professional Duo - Keyboards/Guitar/Dual vocals) and has completely changed my thinking in regards to Mono AND Stereo.

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks again!:)
Just pretend I've written something funny, yet wise and ironic here...

According to the specs of the Pa800 it will load all Pa1x files so I'm failry sure it will work. My only concern is whether addressing will point to the same sounds. In other words is sound "001 Grand Piano Left" the same on both keyboards - I don't know? Some of the sounds in the set use the inbuilt factory sounds while others use PCM (Grand Touch) but it was my understanding that the Pa800 has Grand Touch built in as a factory sound - I may be wrong here as I have never had the chance to try one out. Anyhow it shouldn't hurt to try as the set does not have any global settings - only PCM and factory sound addressing.

John
