File limits on Smart Media Card?

Post by decrepitude »

For some odd reason I can only copy a total of 83 files to my 128mb smart media.

WTF? There's still 110 mb free!

I'm on Mac - the card was formatted in the ESX.

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything via search.

Found another post - another ESX owner experiencing the same:

Sometimes there will be items in the trash on the card that aren't visible in Finder. I'd say with the card connected to your computer, delete a file on it, then empty your trash in the dock. See if that works.

Yeah, I thought of that too. Also, there's a few other hidden files I thought might be the culprit too. But alas, it is not the problem.

I would guess this is a problem with OS X and it's attempt to support an ancient format like FAT32.

Heck, it would take me many hours to deal with 83 files anyway.

Maybe the card is corrupt? I use OSX and it reads my card just fine.

seconds limit

Check also if you are using all your available seconds. You can have a 10gig card but the ESX can only load a certain amount of seconds (205 i think)...

I use OSX too but had to install Paralells + XP and run the Organizer...there you can check how many free seconds you have...

Hope it's helps,

It reads the card fine. I can only *copy* 83 files. These files are all tiny, tiny (like 4kb!) I can fill the card up with larger samples no problem. I just can't have more than 83 files in total on the card.

@raphael - you need to reread the post. It has nothing to do with loading to the ESX - that works fine.

Oh btw, it's happening on two different OSX machines one is 10.4 , the other 10.5.

I'll have access to another card reader and I'll report back what I find.
