When in MultiMode, is the local keyboard disabled, or can it still be used as the input source for one of the 16 MIDI channels?
What I want to set up is a MultiMode patch where Channels 2-16 are being played by an external sequencer (perhaps multitrack software on my computer, or from a handheld PDA) connected to MIDI IN, and the local keyboard is playing Channel 1.
That would allow me to program rhythm/accompaniment MIDI tracks, for example, that I can send to the X50 for performance, but still solo over them in real time from the local keyboard.
I realize that I wouldn't be able to select any program I wanted to for soloing in a live situation; I'd have to decide ahead of time which program I wanted to solo with, and set that up for Channel 1 in the MultiMode patch.
Is this straightforward to do? Is it as simple as setting LOCAL ON when in MultiMode, and selecting a Channel for the local keyboard? Or would I have to do something more complicated like using a MIDI merge box to take the local keyboard's data from MIDI OUT and merge it with the sequencer's data coming from MIDI IN?
Thanks for any insight anyone might have!

The keyboard and modulation controls always remain active, you can use the 'Control track' selection in the main multi mode screen to select on which channel they transmit.
You will have to set Local control on in Global mode to connect them to the internal sound generator or make sure your sequencer sends the data back to the X50 (not both, then you'll get in trouble).
