P.S.

"bout decided just some care is required, in WATCHING the meters/waveforms....

I believe my hearing is enough off on the highs and lower lows, with my getting older, that I can't hear some of the clipping and distortion...

Hi John

Good to hear you're alive and kicking!

Hope to see you about more often here - it has been rather strange without you and your wise words popping up all over the place.

Like when jazlover mentioned his 'quartal harmonies' I kind of hoped you would arrive with an explanation..... but no sign of ya!!!

Looking forward to your next tune!

Regards from
Dee :D

Hi Jaz!!

Thanks for the interest...In fact the quatric pattern should be well known...as it relates to the circle of fifths anyway...

The old cheat sheets I used as a teen followed and skipped some points here and there...We used to read by chord with the interval above spelled out...and the chord left at your own choice as to the inversion...or spelling...Lots of fun...but I CAN'T do it well any more...

Too classical I guess, and haven't played jazz for 35-40 years I guess...

Maybe I CAN..get back to it a bit...The chords come back to me often  just while I am improv...

Thanks all for wondering where I was...I will be in more this week....I HOPE...

Hi Johnny

Good to see you're back here again.

Sure felt like something was missing while you were gone!!!!!!

What do you mean "with the interval above spelled out"??

Hi Dee..As a melodic interval...when needed by a specific part...(often in the piano...of course) It was really a way to pin a start and some notation for a melody..and then it would pick up usually with a solo inst, when it was "remembered"...

In other words, chord given..., sometimes as inversion..., and a note name and # for the melodic entry for a phrase..., only in other words, taking a part place for a score, or manuscript...( you just named the note..like Eflat4...)

Then you could kind of ad lib around the more familiar melodies...or take off on your own on something in an improv. situation that was less familiar, until the guy on clarinet picked up the melody, for example....(and trumpet...sax...and the guitar often filled in with passing tones up/dn around a note as well...)

Of course most of us were playing music we knew well, and never had a prob around melodic content...

Confusing, and I doubt many still play music, inc JAZZ this way..these days :?: Most sheets had just chord numbers or names, usually, as I recall...

That's how I always learned songs on the guitar, just chords and lyrics and you just sang over the chords

Yes, George...and a good way to learn. I did the same long ago...

Now I will mention again to anyone not able...to ALSO learn to read Manuscript/score/piano sheets/....NOTES...!!!!, ~when you have some time. It pays for the rest of your life....
