Hey You - Jon Solo July 2008

Post by JonSolo »

Well this is a VERY incomplete song. It was actually started late in May. However, I have had so little time to work on things that all I have to deliver is a rough draft. It is not even finished remotely (even the last bridge is missing).

Stephen has agreed to give me a real guitar and solo in this song when the time comes.

The best part is: I am not even singing.

I wrote this song completely with a young talented girl (Devon Jones) in mind and she rose to the occasion to sing it for me. I am in the middle of about three songs with her, as well as three more for myself to finish the album.

Sadly I was shy for lyrical ideas for my personal track that was started this month, but enjoy this work in progress for July.

Hey You

http://www.thesolofactor.com/music

Lyrics-

Hey you it’s me not ok
There’s something that I need to say
I can’t go on much longer
My heart’s not getting stronger
And I just wish you’d walk away

Hey you it’s hurting deep inside
And though my words may scar your pride
You’re not the one that’s there for me
And your threats no longer scare me
And I am not the one who has lied

[Bridge]
Don’t try to turn this around (repeat)
You mouth may be moving
But I hear no sound

[Chorus]
I’m not afraid to be alone
I’m not afraid out on my own
I can’t believe I ever let you lead me on
And of this fact I am sure
Within myself I’m quite secure
And so I’m moving on

Hey you, yea you silly boy
I’m tired of being your toy
My heart is not just content
To merely being time well spent
God knows I wanted this to be more

[Bridge]

[Chorus]

[Bridge 2]
Why are you so quiet
I’ve hardly spoke
But I knew you’d be the one to choke
Come back, let me finish
I’ll just take a minute
Better yet, here’s a TM, I’ll just send it

What an excellent voice she has! I just love it. And this song sounds so radio friendly in a good way, I can hear dance re-mixes and hip-hop rap ballad versions. Quite a commercial sound going on here and I can't even imagine adding Stephen to this, there are parts where he could really soar I do believe. I'm glad you shared this. It shows us a different side of you and your production skills. I have no criticisms here, only, keep on keeping on. You're on the right track, we're just going to have to be patient until we can hear the completed piece. By the way, I really like these kinds of lyrics, it's almost another take of "You keep me hanging on" theme, which I love, it's like relationship therapy put to music. For some reason that is a winning formula again and again. Sort of a blues attitude, but pop instead.

I agree, what an excellent voice!
Very high quality recording, is it's rough, how would sound the final version?!

It's quite new to me this acoustic guitar strumming, with some chorus/flanger going on...
The overall song is so nice, so melodic, and sections are greatly blended each other, the one is the perfect evolution of the next.
I like a lot the structure and the arrangment (first verse with few drums and acoustic guitar, the second verse with electric distorted and more drums, just to say one of many details I liked), it's very good (as always, I would add!)

...hey, I was waiting to listen to an amazing guitar solo, but I hear a fade out  you must give it to us!!!
I'm expecting a lead guitar solo like the most melodic one I've ever heard!

Thanks a lot for this one Jon, I liked a lot!

Wow!!!
She's terriffic!
I love everything about this piece, and I'm very excited that I may get to participate.

This is so nice, I'm having trouble knowing where to start.
I love...Her vioce, the lyrics, the fretless bass, the organ, and the plucked sounding notes. (chorus guitar?), the strumming needs pulled waaaay back, it's distracting at times, and the bass needs balanced, but otherwise, this is just outstanding, and very possibly my new favorite from you.
Great song Jon!

It was quite a shock to hear the vocals as it started playing before reading the post :)
What a great sounding voice she has.
A shift in style from taste the wine, this has a heavier feel, I love the arrangement.
Can't wait to hear the finished song, and with Stephen's lead too, great stuff!

Wow - an unfinished work from you - I didn't think it was possible <wink> I guess you are human after all ;-)

What a voice! That does sound very good - in fact, if I didn't know that I was playing your mp3 file, I would think I had the radio on, and then I would have been impressed that the radio actually had something good to play!

Well Stephens certainly got his work cut out for him!

I liked the pop chords - that 3rd chord is cool. And even some bass styling in there :) This is a nite club 2 step dance tune.

I still find it interesting that most of the pop lyrics are of relationships.

Well you know all of OSAM3 is going to haunt you for the finished product!!

Great sounds, this has some real commercial potential. It is an excellent sound. Her voice, the fretless, the guitars and the organ are a great mix. Tell Devon, she such a pleasure to hear! Stephen will be the crowning touch! He has some pressure with such a great piece but what a pleasure to solo on this song. I bet he is in heaven.

Super work Jon! We will be listening to your music on the radio outside of this internet. I am sure of it!

Thanks! ...You better post the finished product.

Thanks for the comments and listens guys.

This one is going to be interesting as we get toward finish. I am hoping to retool the base track a little more and open up some room for Stephen. I also need to get Devon back in the studio for some completed vocals.

If there are any suggestions please feel free to include. I will post any updates I have.

Sadly, like Where Am I, time is a factor...but not for me. Getting the violinist in and Devon in the studio has been a real challenge. I guess people have lives!

Honestly, I have not worked on this tune all month as I have been polishing off the tracks I have previously done (for my upcoming CD) as well as working through a few new songs, IN ADDITION to my real work on other projects for people (which there are quite a few I wish I could share).

Meanwhile this month is ticking away and I do hope to have something by Friday for you guys.

Hello Jon

I'm so glad I got to hear this! Another fantastic song from you, and please pass on my compliments to Devon for her great singing.

We are all looking forward to hearing your CD, and also the finished version of this song.

The arrangement is really good and I liked the way the rhythm of the lyrics changes when the bridge comes in with.... "Don't try to turn this around" ... it fits beautifully with the meaning of the words.

Regards from
Dee
