Micro-X/X-50 arpeggiator(s) autostart possible ?

Post by bluesy69 »

Hi,

I have been looking for an answer to my question all over the internet, but found no solution. So I thought I could try it here.

I'm having a Korg Micro-X synthesizer and have programmed a number of Combi's that use arpeggiated (dual arpeggiator) drum patterns for different parts of a song. So during the song i'm chaining/switching combis by pressing the foot switch pedal. For Example: 4 measures Combi A000, then 16 measures Combi A001, then 8 measures Combi A002, etc.

This works fine, but after a switch to another Combi, the arpeggiator doesn't start automaticly. It only starts when I send a note on (on the keyboard or by midi) to trigger the arps. So almost immediately after pressing the foot switch pedal I also have to press a key (dummy, only to start the arp). In a very fast song (in which i have my hands playing other things) this is not always timed right (press the key slightly before the foot switch) and the drum flow is broken.

Is there a way to start the arpeggiator automatically when you switch to a combi? :?:

Or is there some kind of workaround? Someone suggested sending a note on with the pedal but I don't know if that is possible with the Micro-X.

I tried lots of settings, but with no result (and yes I have read the manual with no sucess either).

Thanks in advance.

I would think it unlikely, given the traditional role of the arpeggiator is to take input notes and transpose them.

It's called a sequencer. You need one, but you bought a keyboard without one. You're trying to use the arps as sequencers, which will get you only so far until you realize they're arps, not sequencers. Or you could prerecord the rhythm patterns into a sampler, which you can trigger independently of what you play on the keyboard.

Arpeggiator vs Phrase Sequencer

Post by bluesy69 »

The Arpeggiators in the Micro-X are not traditional arps but can be used as Phrase Sequencers.

There are several modes. One is indeed the traditional arp in which you create arppeggio patterns based on the notes that are pressed.

But there is also a mode in which you create patterns that are not based on the pressed keys (you specify fixed note numbers to be used regardless of the pressed keys). This latter mode is used to create phrase sequences, but they are limited to their own loop, you can't chain them into a more complex song.

The funny thing is that it is possible to do something similar to that what I want. It is possible to switch between combi's (e.g. from combi1 to combi2) and keep the arpeggiator(s) of combi1 running for combi2. I want that with the exception that it starts the arpeggiator(s) for combi2!!!

If someone has a clue, I'm still interested to hear!

greetings,

That's all true, yet the fact that KORG chose to call them arpeggiators should tell you all you need to know.

hello, bluesy,

I just found your entry, because I have a similar problem with the microx. so did you find a solution? or some kind of workaround?

(my problem actually is: I have programmed 2 arps in 1 combination on different keyboardzones. when I want the verse of a song, I play arp A / when I want the chorus of a song, I play arp B. But when I switch from A to B, unfortunately A is playing on. --> I want Arp A to stop, when I activate Arp B.

How can I do this?)

Thank You very much!
Andre
