Chordial August 2008

Post by chordial »

Very late, and the guitar part has driven me almost mad!
Want to get in to the September song now, can't do any more with this one.

I can appreciate the turmoil of acoustic instruments. The first thing I hear is that the acoustic guitar is almost totally lacking in presence. That is my one gripe in this otherwise lovely song. It kinda has a feel somewhere between Pink Floyd and Kitaro.

And as always I love your synth textures. I would have appreciated a little more lead on this one, but as it is it has a very theatrical feel to it.

I think all of us are looking forward to moving on to or finishing September's song!

Hi Chordial,

Wow - this was a total fun tune - I was dancing about (in my limited room that I have here in command central). The vibe is good - sections - voices.

From a "mix" perspective I thought it sounded a bit flat. Not sure how else to describe it. What are you using to record?

Cheers,

Cheers guys,

How many times did I re-record the guitar part for this, I was hoping to play in through in one take, no chance!
It's my strat but played through fairly dry into the D1600. I tried a few combinations of slight overdrive but it didn't sound right.
I was thinking about Richard Wright when playing some of the piano parts here.

I'll have another listen later at home, I usually use the D1600 limiters (insert effects), maybe that explains it.
My work flow is:
Record all the parts to the D1600 on separate tracks
Add any insert, master and final effects,
Set the scenes (mix) for the whole song
Bounce the mix down to 2 tracks.
Normalise and convert to MP3

A quick remix will be easy, with the D1600 parts can be dropped out of the mix to run independently, such as the insert effects.

I think these chords are great and the movement thruought as well. I am dying to hear a melody earlier on, some synth lead maybe. I think some more high-end or air around the guitar would perk up the sound there. Also, a few suprising notes here and there of either strange sounds or quick melodies would be interesting. However, there is a good song in here and I'm really glad you got this posted. Maybe you should move on to Sept as we're almost over wtih this month now too, where is the time going to.

Thanks George,
I'll give it a quick remix on the weekend, just to see if I can improve the presence.
There is a lot more I could do, but it feels like I imagined, so that part's done.
