Just received a mail that Spectrasonics Omnisphere Power Synth (WOW ) is ready these days. It sells for 377€ which I find quite cheap compared to the praise and expectations I've heard of so far. Has anyone tested it yet? What does it sound like compared to the Oasys? What about aliasing?
BTW: If I compare this price to the prices for new sw-synths or libraries for the Oasys I think its quite cheap, too. How can that be?
I prefer hardware synths and workstations over plup-in synths. But I like the RMX-Stylus library and use it a lot. So if Ominsphere is that cheap and half as good as promised it seems a very fair deal to me.
I will receive my copy sometime next week. No doubt it will be full of great sounds and patches, Eric Persing is a legend in sound design.
But, as has been the case with Atmosphere and RMX, it's gonna get overused soon! We've all heard Spectrasonics patches in hundreds of commercials and movies, surely a testament to the quality of the product, but also a bit disencouraging if you're aiming for individuality..
I hesitated before ordering my copy, but they have a great deal for previous owners of Atmosphere, RMX and Trilogy. ($149) I couldn't resist.
Atmosphere is easy to work with, I mean, you pick almost any patch in Atmosphere, and there: an almost finished soundtrack!
Basically nothing wrong with that, but it feels a bit strange..
i bought omnisphere 15 days ago, very powerfull synth, amazing soounds, eating so much cpu (even with a powerfull mac), but there are workarounds. excellent complement to the big O

imac core2 duo 2,4ghz + 4go of ram. omnisphere is using about (on average) 30%, depending of the patches. with picks to about 50% when loading patches.
I had a look at the video-demo of the interface. Looks quite well designed and easy to handle - esp. once you're used to RMX. Do you agree to this?
And if you compare the sound-quality to the Oasys how would you rate it?
Is it as aliasing-free as the Oasys once you play very high or very low notes?
the samples are huge, so very good quality, no aliasing detected. i will check it for the dsp rendered analogic waveforms if there is aliasing or not. so sound quality is a least equal to oasys, no problem, but hte library is quiet different, so excellent complement!
Thanx for the info - looking forward to your Aliasing-Feedback. I'm getting quite interested in it. But on the other hand there is so much more to discover on the Oasys ... seems I'm in heaven.

Note that sample size isn't related to aliasing.

I don't know about you guys but since working with the Oasys (and Radias!), aliasing is something I notice far more than I used to. Either directly hearing it or hearing what I interpret as being companies' efforts to mitigate it using filtering.
Daz, I agree - the Oasys spoiled me regarding aliasing. As soon as I start one of the Logic-Instruments I hear it. I'd never use one of them. It's not so much it would disturb other people - it's more disturbing me.

To a certain point I agree with you. But in that case one should not use Sample libraries or factory sounds at all. On the other hand I like the different ways people are using the sounds.
Concerning Eric Persing - he is in my opinion by far the best sound designer. His work for Roland was already impressing.. the S-Series library and of course the factory patches that was in my opinion a big part of the success of instruments like the D-50.. and many more.
And by the way.. if you have Michael Jackson's "Thriller".. then have a look about the musicians
