for an audio interface I love my Presonus Firestudio Project. Firewire with 10 in and 10 outs. Seems like a lot but when you run everything stereo that eats up those in's quick :)

Midi clock is just a signal that is used to synchronize midi devices. Say you have a keyboard a drum machine and ableton live. All connected and talking over midi. You need something that all three devices can use to keep time with so they can all keep their tempo's sync'd ect. You basically pick one of the devices and say "you get to be the midi clock master" then you tell the other devices "hey listen to that device there for your clock timing" Now if you change the tempo in the 'master', the tempo changes and matches in the other devices. Hope that helps :) I am sure there is a more technical answer but that's the way I look at it.

What type of computer and what software will you be using?

Do you need a USB or Firewire audio interface?

Yes, there are mixers that double as audio interfaces. Do you want an analog or digital mixer?

Do you need the mixer controls to be able to control your software as well?

Lots of things to think about :?
