Yes you are right but we already Convert anything from Korg to anything
and vice versa...this kind of software is not a threat. If Korg was planing
on something like that they woul've done it back in 1995, 13 years earlier
but they are too busy collecting our money and screwing customers up.

Yes - It already works for my own needs (same functions as i30 File Editor).

For the moment, I don't know if I'll release it.

What is this "something", Jerry ? The fact that your PC cannot open a *.STY file?

Well, the PC as well as Windows are unable to open any file by themselves: opening a file needs a program that "knows" the format etc. of the data stored in this file.

Notepad can open *.txt, Excel can open *.xls (among others) etc. but no Windows (nor MacOS or Linux) program can open a Korg *.sty file.

The only program that can open such a file, to display and edit its content is... inside Pa OS's!

Note: you can "open" any file with an hexadecimal editor (e.g. AXE), but what you'll see is meaningless

It's not what you want but there is a trick i use to check the names of styles inside a .sty file. Install a Total commander program, highlight a sty file and press f3 (view), you'll see the names of the styles in that bank.

I just picked up on this now. Are there and legal concerns about developing this software that Mick is been working on at all? I hope Korg won't have a strange attitude about this.

So far there has been no issues from Korg about the software I'm developing, in fact several Korg people have beeb supportive!!

This is the way I did it before but found it cumbersome and that lead to me developing PAL-File Viewer

I would like to be able to empty and add styles to my Favorite banks on the PC using "Cut and Copy" commands.

JerryS try using XRM (also available from my website - address is in my signature) although it is primarily for the PA1X it should work for the PA800 as well

I dont think Korg can do anything, he is not stealing anything from Korg.
Its like Korg stoping me to use Cubase for Sequencing.

yeah, but your analogy of cubase is not relevant. I've seen this kind of development go to all kinds of directions over the years. Cubase wasn't designed to do anything for korg. But this software is designed for a particular purpose i believe. Similar attempts have had different results. Some times,the company just doesn't care (or even is more than happy to see a smart user develop anything like that..) , some times they see it as a potential threat if it gets to a serious level, and they might think if this falls into the wrong hands it might get into a level when you can actually start converting and changing korg stuff...(i'm not saying this is the case, but just my experience of the past)...Some times, the company actually contacts the developer, and hires him/her...etc...and so on.

pa800/pa2x files won't at this time convert backwards to other models or makes of keyboards. Therefore I wouldn't worry too much about third party software developers being penalised by Korg anytime soon.

Most all keyboards have been converted from and to and in reverse and very little has been done by the manufacturers to stop this other than jumping on people if they posted current copyrighted style's. However, what they are doing now is pushing forward for future development and so are coming up with ways of stopping use of their particular style format in other keyboards. This has happened with Yamaha Tyros3 and I believe will fully happen with Roland also on their next New Keyboard.

To me they are saying ''You want our new styles then you must buy our keyboard''. I've said this before and considering the present evidence I believe it's the way the manufacturers are heading IMHO.
