R3 - Preset L3 sound changes?

Post by SearchTheHouse »

Hi

My question is in regards to R3 default preset L-3 (Vintage Bass - Morph 33).

I like the way it sounds, kind of strong attack with a wow-wow kind of sound on it. However, the sound changes, kind of rotates in and out between that sound and other quieter bassier sound.

How do I turn that off, so I am just left with that initial sound (wow - wow) so that every time I hit the key I hear that, rather than it being a guessing game if I'm going to get that sound or it 'rotates' to the other sound.

I've messed around with editing the sound but no matter what I change I seem to change every other aspect of the sound except for that one.

I've had my R3 for over a year now, but I'm still pretty new to the world of oscillators and filters etc. I typically just mess around until I find something I like, but I'd like to know the specifics.

Thanks

Change Voice Assign from Mono 1 to Poly.

The problem is that the Mono 1 affects the behavior of the envelopes when a key is hit before the prior key is released. In mono mode, there is only one note and one envelope allowed (of each kind) for each key hit, so the second key hit actually cuts off the prior note and doesn't retrigger the envelope when played legato. In Poly mode, each keypress has its own note and envelope, and the prior notes don't get cut off unless you run out of polyphony. The behavior or Mono also cause clicks to occur when the prior note gets cut off by the new note, so Poly mode can also eliminate those clicks. If you want a really smooth-liquid bass patch - always use poly mode. There's really not much need for mono mode anyways, since you can always play one note at a time instead of relying on it.

patch 2- you have to put the intensity to zero

That will turn off the LFO effect on the filter center. But now that you mention patch 2, I think you're on the right track. I thought he was referring to the filter changes due to EG1 not being retriggered, but it is probably also due to the LFO sync on the filter as well, not just the EG1 and polyphony.

The solution is to set KeySync = Voice on LFO1, as well as to set VoiceAssign = Poly, which will trigger the LFO in exactly the same phase every time a key is pressed. The intensity on patch 2 should be left at 30 to keep the basic timbre the same as it was.

Another option would be to replace the LFO effect on Filter 1 with EG3, which would give much more control over exactly how the filter sweep occurs when a key is pressed. LFO1 is currently set to 1 cycle per 10 seconds, so it probably never goes through a full cycle anyways.
