Velocity sensitivity/ Virtual Patch

Post by lefty biceps »

Hi,

I'd like to turn Velocity on for some patches that don't have it enabled on the MicroKorg (the emusician.com review actually addresses the same thing:
"only a handful of the 128 factory presets have Velocity enabled. After turning on Velocity-sensitivity in the Virtual Patch section, I was able to play the instrument much more expressively.").

I've read the manual and the Virtual Patch part, but as a synth rookie I just can't figure it out. So if I someone could please give me some concrete tips on how to do it.

Thanks!

First find an unused patch:-
Turn Edit Select 2 to Patch 1, move Knob 3 slightly to display its Mod Int value; if it's not 0 then it's being used, so repeat for Patches 2 to 4 until you find an unused one.

You can now use this patch to connect keyboard velocity to amplifier level:-
Turn Knob 1 to select patch source: Keyboard Velocity (VEL)
Turn Knob 2 to select patch destination: Amp
Turn Knob 3 to increase the modulation intensity (Mod Int) to the required amount while you're playing the keyboard.
Other patch sources & destinations are explained on page 30 in manual.

If velocity doesn't seem to work anywhere, check the global velocity curve has not been disabled:-
Turn Edit Select 2 to Global
Turn Knob 3 to select CrV (curve) - see page 47.

Hope this helps,
Phil.
