Friends,

From The Chronicles, first, second and last, Of Thomas Covenant, the massive series of 10 volumes, by the "other" fantasy writer, Stephen R. Donaldson, this is my thoughts on the sad character from Mithil Stonedown, and the crime committed by Thomas Covenant, and about Lena's love...in the fIrst book:

I intended the sustained lines in the synth to suggest the present and impending long term sorrow, and the piano and strings to reflect her goodness....

It's not a series I know, this is a lovely piece.
The orchestration is really cool, subtle in some parts and more commanding in others.
Again you've used some great progressions and chords.
A marvellous musical tale, that conveys the ideas you talked about.

I loved the Thomas Covenant series when I read - oh so long ago - back in college in the dorm. Used to read from 11 - 3AM after partying. Man those were the days!!

Recently I have read his collection "Reaves The Just". Have you read it?

Another beautiful full blown composition you grace us with. The piano sounds much better than your previous tune - much clearer. the section around 3:15 really got me - nice tension chords to resolution :)

So it sounds like you were inspired - isn't great when that happens!

This is just lovely. I simply love this. And please tell me this took some real thought, because it sounds like you put a lot into this. It doesn't at all seem aimless ever. Each section adds another emotional element. And those sustained pads really work, though I don't know how you make them sound so good and yet blend them without getting muddy sounding. And there are places where the pads drop away for good emphasis. Your talents are not lost on our ears here, you've got some serious fans, if I can speak for our group here. Truly a beautiful piece.

Yes, George, this one, while an improv. was kind of thought out pretty well...Thanks for the support on this... And thanks for your support and SUPER work on this OSAM...It has been quite successful, and much of that is you and Chordial....

Thanks for the listen, Art...I am aware of the "Reaves the Just" never read it... I am too tied up in analyzing the Chronicles... I will get it at your rec..., and give it a try. I like the Chronicles for the absolutely Total immersion you can get into after a few readings....., Requires a LOT OF THOUGHT and STUDY to really understand his purpose...

Thanks for listening to the song....I really had not hoped it would be listened to, Piano is about worn out, but I cannot seem to get into anything else now....(??)

And to the other "leader", Thanks Chordial!! for the good words, and thanks for being a part of leading this group this year! Interesting...it is just about a January through December period, this time....; just off one month.

Wonder if you friends will plan to go with another OSAM??? It is a special thing to me...and you should, if you can work it out... I don't see my own way free to go again, but there HAVE been a number of inquiries...

The improv aspect was there but the tune does not ramble which makes this piece enjoyable to listen to. While I didn't feel the contrast or tension in the strings, it brought a nice complement to the piano parts.

Perhaps I am not familiar with the writings you discuss, yet I could hear inspiration pouring from your hands on this one. I too have used writings and books to gather ideas and inspiration. When it comes together it feels really good.

Keep up the good work! Hoping for another OSAM myself.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the very kind comments....you are not likely to be on the same page with my January, and Last attempt for this cycle(!!!). Oh well, it is just a wild piano story.....

And! Your last comment is an issue for the group;

OSAM...! Perhaps one of you more active, or moderating members would start a thread on the "next" OSAM.. and commit and/or discuss membership?

Just a thought, and my thanks, Jon, for the ready and honest aid to many of us this cycle...:D )

Very nice, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I agree the piano does sound really good in this one, I also got a little analog vibe from the string pads.

Hi John

Sorry that I have taken so long to listen to your December song. I know the series you have based this on, and will try to get back to reading from the first book again this year.

The feeling of impending sorrow is conveyed well with that long sustained low note, and because I know the story, I also fancied a feeling of love, hope and courage at around 2:10 onwards.

But yes, she is a very sad character, and very admirable in her self-sacrifice also, which you depicted well here.

I loved the melodic idea, with the major/minor change, that you brought in at the end, with a new low note, and wished it could be developed and expanded more.

Hope to see more of you here on the forum in future - you are sorely missed by all!
