Korg R3+MPC1000

Post by Getmoney105 »

So i have my mpc1000 as my main sequencer and just purchased a korg r3. I am miding the 2 together and its recording just fine but when i try to record a 2nd track it changes my recorded track to a sound im just scrolling through. It basically overwrites any recorded sound with any sound you scroll through making it impossible to record more than one track. Does anybody know why it's doing this? I also already tired turning off program change and activated the timbre's to multi, that didnt seem to do it/

the R3 isn't really multitimbral...
as all you're recording is the MIDI messages from the keyboard (or whatever), basicaly you're just recording note on, note off, etc... and the MPC is sending that back to the R3, so its going to play it back on whatever program you have selected on the R3.

if you had a multitimbral device, you could have different timbres (usually up to 16), and set each one to a different MIDI channel (or the same if you want to layer some of the sounds). then you would record the MIDI for that channel onto your SEQ i.e. an MPC, PC, Triton, etc... then each channel would refer to a different soudn on your device.

The R3 has two timbres, but they are specific to each program, so it is not a true multi-timbral mode where you can select for example any two programs...

The best solution to this is to record the audio from the R3 instead. I don't know if you can do this with the MPC, but for example on a computer or multitrack hard disk recorder it would be easy...

oh that kinda sucks, i thot it was multi-timbral. So i guess i can just direct record into my MPC and chop it as a WAV, even tho that's kind of defeating the purpose...

The R3 is multitimbral. It's just not multitimbral the way you thought. But none of the VA synths are multitimbral like a ROMpler is. The most timbres you'll usually get on a VA synth is 4.

Dude, how do you setup mpc1000 as main sequencer and r3. I am having problems to record midi. Could you help, please?
