What to pay...

Post by yamaha135 »

Hey guys..

My triton classic seems to be showing signs of its age now. Some functions don't work (the joystick), and the keys transpose by themselves (yes... really... in the middle of playing on stage)...

I'm looking to get a used extreme, but 88 keys this time. 61 just isn't enough for doing anything related to a piano and 76 will leave me wanting more.

Of course, they are discontinued, but I'm trying to find out what "going rate" would be for a good condition 88 key. I just need the keyboard itself, because it won't be going anywhere so no need for a case, I have pedals everywhere and already have 3 stands.

Let me know. Also, if anyone wants to sell theirs, let me know. I'm gonna be getting some cash soon and I'm seriously considering this.

EDIT: US dollars! hehe

check ebay and craigslist and other music forums. There's one on ebay starting at 1,200

I never really paid attention to the 88's so what they usually top out at I have no idea.

Yea... problem is, ebay doesn't have many (2 at the moment) and my area doesn't have any on craigslist.

I'm starting to send emails to people in other states wondering if they would ship. I'm talking to someone about 2-3 hours away for $900. They don't seem too willing to ship, only as last resort, but I am willing to drive to get it.

Did you serviced the Classic already? Maybe it is worth some investigation. What is the problem with joystick? A broken spring or no signal from controller at all? The wires connecting joystick with MB are very fragile, but it is very easy to fix them, just get inside - see the picture of my TEX88: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=35952

The transposition problem may be related to some slacken connections as well. If I were You I would open it up and check all the wires between action and MB. But it is your unit and your decission :) Good luck

Best regards,

Yes... I have checked it out. I have opened it up and re-seated all connections.

I have estimated a repair, and by the time I ship it and back, I could have paid for a new one.

I'm looking at an 88 key extreme with SKB case for $1500 now.

Hopefully you get it! You won't regret it.

I can't believe I did it. LOL

Congrats! Let us know how ya like it! I was on pins and needles tracking it at the UPS site. I don't trust them but thankfully the owner packed it very well(he didn't have the original box). It had a long trek coming from Cali

I need to get a case as well. Extreme61 owners tell me to get one that is made for a 76. I'll break down and buy one in the next week or so.

Where is yours coming from? Hopefully not 2 far so it arrives soon!

Well, it wont even be shipped for a week. It's coming from Georgia, headed to Cleveland, Ohio.

He included a "very large amount of TLC in packing" and also included insurance in the shipping cost. I am tempted to buy the case and send it there for him to pack it in. I will also be tracking that package about every 5 minutes... especially from my iPhone.

I was scammed the first Triton I bought. I "bought" a 76-key TC from a guy in spain for $900. This was my first "big boy" keyboard. This forum was relatively new and I had started here, as well as TritonHaven to learn all I could so I would be ready when it came. Never got the keyboard. Bought my 61-key TC a few weeks later from another guy. I got all of his information and tracked it literally every hour. I've had it ever since. It's been a great keyboard, but like I said... 61 keys is NOT enough.

Any tips, links or whatnot that might "update" me on whats new in the TEX? I think I'm more excited about 88 keys than I am the new features. I haven't been able to play a full arpeggio in forever it seems like.

Yeah I was tempted to delay the shipping a week and buy the case and send it to the guy so he could use it but Im not a very patient person lol. And Yes I refreshed the tracking page very very often.

Sucks about being scammed with the classic.

The entire extreme world is new to me so can't help ya much in that category. I still have to update the OS to 1.5(mine arrived with 1.2) It came with the CF card but I don't have a reader, just an SD reader for my other boards. Once the reader arrives Ill update it(although Ive heard horror stories about a few dying once it's installed).

Hey, can we update using one of the USB connections? I never thought of that, I've been so wrapped up with testing and fiddling

Yeah I went from the TR and SD cards to the ancient floppys with the Karma, took a while to realize the Karma was released many moons ago hence the ancient storage medium.

I don't see anything in regards to transferring the update file using USB in the manual. Hmmm
