Re: ketron sd1 vs pa800/pa2x sound quality
Hi shay,
the drums on the SD1 sound great because of the mix of " Live Drum" kits & GM kits used in most of the styles. The Gm Drum tracks add variety to the style tracks. If you get a chance to try the friends sd1, mute the gm drum tracks & listen to the Live drum tracks & vice versa, you'll hear what I mean.
The rom Live Drums appear to be based on audio drum loops, they're not like a regular midi drum kit.
Whether or not the gm kits on the sd1 sound better than on the korg, can't really comment.
As for making Korg drums sound better, I can't help, but , check into the Groove function on the Korgs, it uses drum audio loops.
Another thing to bear in mind, midi capabilities in a SD1 aren't a patch on the Korg. Style editing functions are all but non existant.
I've had my SD1+ for approx. 3 years & the SD1 is even older than that.

Just a few tips that help me get the best possible sounds from my Pa2x:
Global -> General Controls -> Basic
set the Reverb Offset parameter to +14
Global -> Audio Setup -> Master EQ
make sure Master EQ is enabled with a tick in the box
Low Gain - 0dB
Mid Gain - 6dB
Freq - 3.7 kHz
High Gain - 12dB
From the drop down menu Write Global - Global Setup
That should fix the sound problems for most people. Of course you can play around with the Master EQ settings for weeks like I've done. But the settings above give the best posssible results for me, with using studio monitors and high quality headphones.
Best regards,
Rob

Hi Shay,
I didn't mean to imply you were listening to a loop, but that they were based on a sliced loop. At least that's the impression I got from a thread on Synthzone, some time back. Maybe I misunderstood.
The SD1 does load wav drum audio loops , but unlike the Korg, it doesn't slice them, and they can't be manipulated like the korg loops. It wasn't this type of loop I was refferring to.
Anyway, they sound great.
Hoping to maybe do something similar for my PA800 with the Groove function, if I find some suitable loops. So far I've only got a few brushes.
p.s.
Thanks Rob for the tips, may also work for my PA800

I would really be affraid to compare PA800 to SD1 drums on a PA system.
It would be scary trust me, i had the oportunity to do so few times.

You might be right about Solo sounds but Style structure...its ...hmm...mrkorg wrote:I would be afraid to compare PA800 sounds and styles to that of SD1 either with internal speakers or on a PA system. The ketron will be lost in translation.
i am smarter whn i shut my mouth...some of KORG's engineers can even
answer that for you...the ones that create the synth.
