How do I get all the combi banks int a-g and User a-g back?

Post by bbendorf »

I just purchased a new Oasys and it came loaded with ALL the combi's filled from Korg and awsome combi's. I did the Authorization thing, updated the software and now All I have is Combi INT A,B,C, and User G.

Does anyone have a way to get the Combi's back? Korg shipped my OASYS fully loaded with all banks of combi's.

I tried restoring the factory load or Pre-load and I only get combi's A-c and User G.

Tried calling Korg Support Message states "Call back after July as they are at some event".

Any help I would be so grateful. You can email me the combi's if you have a new OASYS, I would be so so grateful as the Korg update wrecked mine.

Kind Regards,
Barend

When the Oasys was initially released only banks INT A - INT C were populated as per the spec :

1,792 user memory combinations (384 come preloaded)

Korg added some combis to the USER G bank for the Brass and Woodwind collection. Additionally you'll find some further combis associated with LAC-1 on the korguser.net site.

So sad if I just left what came with it and never updated to 1.3.3 and authorized things.... It truley came with the most remarkable sounds ever! All the combi's were full and with the best. I orderd some from KARO, but what Korg Sent to me was the BOMB!. Now to just find a Korg person who has those banks again....??

Kind Regards,
Barend

Updating the software does not affect the sounds, unless you specifically choose the "restore sounds" option. You mention authorizing the system; why was this necessary?

I'm not sure what could have been in those banks! The banks you list above (INT A-C and USER-G) are the only Combis shipped by Korg.

That seems highly unusual; perhaps there was a misunderstanding. Support is provided by your national Korg Distributor. Where do you live, who did you call, and what number did you dial? Let me know, and I'll look into it.

Combi's

Post by bbendorf »

Purchased from Sweetwater. They said it was fully loaded with a killer set from Korg?
Also I called this number 516 333 8737 Tech Support at KORG
The answering machine states they will be at an event until July?

The Oasys when booted when it first came stated that I needed to purchase licence for all the espansions from korguser.net so i did... cost a bunch more thought the keyboard came with all that stuff, So i purchased and downloaded the authorization keys (Made CD's as per instructions) then everything showed up on boot not DEMO mode that fades in and out. When I upgraded to 1.3.3 it erased the presets. It did not ask it just did it when I rebooted.

Good news is I am all authorized up, and using it.
I live in 93023 Zip code in Ojai Ca.
Purchased from Sweetwater who is great. They called Korg with me on conference but got message also.

Thanks for the help, Best keyboard I bought even better the Synclavier!
Love it, just have to purchase or locate all the cool Combi's that were sent with it    . If you know who set up the presets please email me!
as I was using them on a Discovery Channel gig and wrote all the stuff with them. I have been programming my own, but do not have all the time.

Kind Regards,
Barend

The OASYS, as of 1.3.3, comes with 1,290 Programs and 384 Combis (not including the EXs3 Programs and Combis). That might have been what they means by fully loaded - and I do think the sounds are killer! :-)

In the past, Sweetwater has sometimes produced their own sounds; is it possible that some of the sounds were from them? You might ask them.

I just called the number to check. I heard the normal message, waited on hold for a minute or two, and then spoke briefly with a support tech.

Perhaps you reached a wrong number? I'd try calling again.

Anything is possible, but that would be unusual. The 1.3.3 update does not erase user data in RAM. It specifically requires that new data be loaded separately by the user, to avoid inadvertently affecting the user's data.

The Karo sounds is great. Especially the Karo Philh. Strings + the Karo Strings & Brass. The last one is far cheaper than the Philh. Strings but requires KPS 3.1. Check out all the mp3 demos and listen for yourself. I also love those huge warm Oberheim pads that comes with the Philh. Strings edition.

How do the Karo Strings sound? Real or just another string patch that you say cool, but not blow you away. I emaild them. I really want some good Cymbol Mallet rolls and Harps that are not a guitar. Nerver undrstood whay Korg could not get a good Harp? Since tne M1. At EMu we sampled wone and compressed it and it was so small yet every film composer and arranger requested it.

I have been using th Yamaha BC3 with the midi converter to play in the woodwind parts and brass...wow what a cool thing no pedals both hands free etc.

Any way to get more combi's would be great. Korg might have sent mine as a gift because they were discontinuing it.

Anyhow. Thanks all keep the links and ideas comming.
Might be nice to start a forum on patchs and sounds, and a place to let people upload and trade. then we get a great wealth and variety of colors from all the owners. This would be such an asset. Nothing like being up in the middle of the night on a gig and looking for a new String patch, or a killer pad etc and have someware to go other then google.

Kind Regards,
Barend

They are far better (IMO) than any string patch you find in a keyboard, incl. even the Oasys. Personally, I love the "Sordino" strings because they are very realistic and "whispering" and therefore a excellent choice for "adagio" parts etc. If you combine the strings with a thick Oberheim sound in addition, they sound amazing together. Make sure that you check out the "combi" mp3's and not just the "program" samples.

Hello,

How do they compare to the Roland Fantom-G/X Strings?, I was "assumning" you have tried the "Fantom X" with the Orchestral board in, and those "SRX" strings. This link is an interactive demo of the SRX cards (Fantom-G doesn't have a slot for these - which i find totallly bizarre! - it's like Rolands "Equivelent" omission of the OASYS Sequencer..(sorta)

It's the SRX=06. Love the "26" BIG STRINGS one:)

Fantom

Post by bbendorf »

I own the Fantom XR fully loaded with all the brass and strings pop, etc.
It is great but missing a sordino kinda thing or fullness. It is great but unique.

I have my own I sampled from sessions back that are awsome but in EMu EIIIxp format. They are the best. How would I port them to Oasys?
EMU-OASYS ?

If you know how let me know I would be happy to share with I disk!! I have got some library from my old Disney days that blows doors on all these others. Reason being that they are recorded with the same studio, mics engineers as the TV and Movies. I even have Superballs on Gran Cassa's and superball on cymbols. Log drums, marktrees, harps galor. Problem is they are all tweaked and in the EMu EIIIxp and EIV format.

If I only new how to get them to open on the OASYS and then save them in OASYS format. Now That would be the bomb. I used to make librarys for EMU and Kurzweil years back and have sooooo many DAT's loaded with stuff still waiting not to mention all the stuff allready in EMU format.

ANy Ideas? I own the east/West librarys and my strings/Harps blow doors as they are modeled and mixed like WIVI. So if you just use the BC3 or the mod wheel they are scary real.

Extreme Sample Converter can import those Emu discs, but it doesn't support Korg flavoured output and daftly the Oasys can't import anything modern/useful like SoundFonts (as the M3 can). You'd have to convert the samples to WAV/AIFFs using that kind of software app and then import those WAV/AIFFs into the Oasys and create multisamples and programs atop them.
