Speakeres for KORG TR 61

Post by subin »

Hi

i have recently puchased a KORG TR-61.
One think i have noticed is that it has got let right output and few more other output options. What are these for ?
I would like to have speakers for it, what kind of speakers should i go for ? If so, what should be the specifications ?
Kindly do advise ?

The different output pairs are there so that in a live setting, you can use multiple channels and give your sound engineer more control over the balance between your keyboard sounds. Other than the main pair of outputs, you have to bypass the master effects in order to use the other outputs.
Keyboard Rig: Korg Kronos, Moog Sub 37, Waldorf Blofeld Module, Neo Instruments Ventilator II, Moog MiniFooger Delay, Strymon BigSky, Roland KC-150, Mackie 802-VLZ4 Mixer

For home/studio use, I use M-Audio BX 5, and for live, I use one, or two, depending on the size of the venue, Behringer B212A.
I'm really happy with both.
Hope this helps.

It can also be used if you are wanting to use an external effects device for some of your sounds (like a a kaoss pad or maybe even amplifier or guitar pedals for lead sounds), in sequencer mode you can configure it to output a click track on one of the outputs, and when multitracking in the studio you can use it to record more elements of your performence, same as when you're playing live - giving the oppertunity to balance the keyboard sounds at the mixing stage later and apply individual effects.

L/Mono means that if you connect just a cable to L without connecting one to R, it will sum the output to mono (i.e. the L jack socket will actually output L + R). its not recommended as you will loose a lot of quality but some people prefer to use a single keyboard amplifier (like a guitar amp) on stage, either to save money or just trying to keep it simple i suppose.

there are lots of powered (active) monitors out there. it depends how much money you want to spend, which as with most purchases will directly affect the quality. in monitor terms, when we talk about 'quality' we're often talking about the flatness of the response range. if you're just playing and not mixing down tracks then it doesn't matter so much. I have a pair of behringer MS16 active monitors which work well for just playing the keyboard, although as with many cheaper speakers you will need to get cables or adaptors for Jack > RCA Phono.

The Behringer B212As that I use on stage, are powered, I run a cable out of both L&R of the TR into my mixer, then L&R out of the mixer to the speakers.
Not saying this is the best, but it works nicely for me, you can also run out of the TR directly to the speaker.
I've been told that the Mono is fine for stage, unless the PA is run in stereo.
Try comparing the MONO, and L&R outs, and see if you hear a difference, I've never done that, but if you're just using one speaker, then MONO out should be just fine.
A lot of the subtle panning that stereo offers, gets lost in a live invironment anyway.
Good luck.
