Hi,
I'd like to record myself with the R3 and Logic Pro. I plug it to my Mac with USB, but it doesn't record the sounds. I can only use it as a MIDI controller, to play virtual instruments.
Could you help me please ?
Thanks
the R3's USB only carries MIDI data. I think currently this is true for all korg machines.
You need an audio interface, on a pac the built-in audio may be good enough, but i've never tried it. you will need a stereo splitter cable and adaptor(s) obviously.
Current Gear: Kronos 61, RADIAS-R, Volca Bass, ESX-1, microKorg, MS2000B, R3, Kaossilator Pro +, MiniKP, AX3000B, nanoKontrol, nanoPad MK II,
Other Mfgrs: Moog Sub37, Roland Boutique JX03, Novation MiniNova, Akai APC40, MOTU MIDI TimePiece 2, ART Pro VLA, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.
Past Gear: Korg Karma, TR61, Poly800, EA-1, ER-1, ES-1, Kawai K1, Novation ReMote37SL, Boss GT-6B
Software: NI Komplete 10 Ultimate, Arturia V Collection, Ableton Live 9. Apple OSX El Capitan on 15" MacBook Pro
If all you are interested in is recording your keyboard sounds onto your computer and nothing more, this is pretty easy, and can be accomplished with a splitter cable and adapter (Y style cable with two 1/4" jacks on one side, and one on the other, plus an adapter that goes from 1/4" to 3/8" minijack).
Or, if you want to go crazy and offer yourself a lot more options:
Get an interface that connects to your computer via USB or Firewire that has the following options:
MIDI In/Out
At least two 1/4" Inputs
and possibly an XLR (mic) input for recording vocals or other things
Connect the MIDI Out of your R3 to the MIDI In of your interface, and the MIDI Out of your interface to the MIDI In of your R3
Connect the 1/4" Outputs of your R3 to the 1/4" Inputs of your interface.
In Logic, set up a MIDI track with it's input being the MIDI In of your interface, and Output being the MIDI Out.
Set up a Stereo Audio Track in Logic with it's inputs being the 1/4" inputs that the R3 is connected to.
With this setup you can play/record your MIDI notes in Logic, edit them and make them the way you want. Then go back and hit play while recording on the audio track. Your performance will be the way you want, and you can use your external keyboard's sounds.
