I have been avoiding the sequencer for such a long time, instead using my TR and ancient X3 for gigs, just for the sounds.
But now, I have a vocalist friend who asked me to be his pianist (keyboardist) for duet stuff at restaurants, senior homes, etc. He is singing to what seems to be Karaoke CD tracks. I have to play over these CDs which is a bit awkward. I am thinking that building sequences for his tune list will be the fix for the Cd thing.
So here are my "for dummies" questions:
It seems that you cannot play over playing sequences. You can only do one or the other. True?
There are these Youtube demos for the TR and the guy makes it look so easy to get started on building sequences. Perhaps for some, but it is not easy for this old guy to grasp. Is there a "for Dummies" kind of guide geared toward Korg instruments?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks and sorry for being so wordy. - Lenster
Sequencing For Dummies

The manual is a good place to start.
there are also DVDs and youtube vids relating to the rest of the triton series, so the interface will be a bit different but all of the buttons are still there, just in different places due to our smaller non-touch screen.
Basic operation of the sequencer is really simple though and shouldn't take you much time to grasp.
first go in to the prog tab and select the programs you want to use, then go into the main tab again. you can see a bit at the bottom that says which track is selected (T01, T02, T03, etc).
you just hit record, wait for the two bar count in, and then play.
when you have finished press start/stop, and locate to go back to the beginning. go to the next track, and repeat.
you can play over your other tracks when you are finished too. just make sure you set up the program you want to play in a timbre (maybe you should reserve Timbre 1 (T01) for this. make sure that timbre is selected, then hit play, and you can play just like you were when you were recording.
if you find some instruments are too loud or quiet, or just want a more professional mix, use the mix page. you can mute, unmute, change the level and pan of different timbres. just like you would in the recording studio.
finally, if you really want it to sound polished, you can add effects. remember that programs have access to the 1 IFX and two MFX, but that is not carried over to sequence or combi mode, because there are still only 1 IFX and 2 MFX slots available. you have to tailor the effects to your specific needs. e.g. you can use IFX for a compressor or EQ specific to your piano, and use the MFX for chorus or phase, and reverb...
the IFX is routed in the IFX: Bus page, where you set the outputs for a specific track, you can set that output to IFX. then you set the effect in IFX: Setup page, and the next page sets the settings for that effect. you can use the category button for the effect selection field.
also in the IFX: Bus page you will see two fields where you set the amount of each program that is 'sent' to the two MFX. this works just like the effect sends on a mixer.
on the MFX: Setup page you can see the two MFX just like you did for selecting the IFX, but next to it you have to set a return amount too. this is basically a mixer level for the output of the effect, because it is returned and added to the original signal.
I bet your post doesn't look so wordy now does it?
hope that helps a bit.
