Attention Korg! Potential R3 bug!
Got a new R3 and Radias rack. R3 sounds great except the tempo knob is unstable!
Is this a bug because for some programs, as soon as I tweak the tempo, it changes randomly (I made sure its not a mod sequence thing). It seems the knob is too sensitive and erratic, but could be the software.
Any chance of an OS udpate?

you aren't the only one with this problem

seems to be fairly common, I had two different R3's - both with the same issue

I just received my third R3 (second time replaced) from Korg today.tritonlover2000 wrote:Any news about updates? This bug is bugging the hell out of me!
The r3 is basically useless for any recording or playing purposes!
Haven any of you heard anything from the Korg reps? I expect to see a new OS soon!
Same exact problem, out of the box.

I thought they issued a statement about a fix for this - something for service centres to do for the units that do encounter the problem - involves a capacitor or something soldered across the pot.
It isn't a software issue from what that would suggest. Anyway I think it was mentioned in one of the other posts about this problem.

potential bug problem
mine had the glitch right out of the box, too. a girl at a bar in bozeman spilled her drink into my R3 and, for the most part, the glitch went away! it's still there on some of the programs, but most function fine now! anyway, if you have a drum machine to MIDI-time the R3, then the problem goes away (for me, anyway). Korg pisses me off for not addressing this issue. when i called, the guy argued with me, and told me to drive across the state to get it fixed, and I live in Montana, which you could fit many smaller states into. so much for the f-ing warranty! i might put a sticker over the korg logo so I'm not advertising a bunk company that doesnt' support their customers to my crowds.

There's an easy way to fix this...
Just write over the patch you are playing so the current tempo is saved, turn the power off and then rotate the tempo knob completely counter clockwise so that it can't turn anymore. Turn the power back on and load up the patch you had just saved. As long as the tempo knob remains turned all the way to the left, any patch that you play on won't jitter between tempos.
This tricks works on mine, so I'm only assuming it will work for all others. If not, there's always the external MIDI clock trick. As long as the R3 is reading the MIDI clock of another instrument, the tempo won't jitter.
