Help! Transpose between two keyboards (MIDI)

Post by Devon »

Hi guys, it's been a while and I bought a Korg M3 recently and I love it. Although I do face a major issue and it's about MIDI.

What I would like to achieve is the Korg M3 transpose to be equal to the Korg Pa1x pro when changing the transpose on the Pa1x pro (which I like to set as the master keyboard).

So I just want the transpose to be the same between the two keyboards, no sound transfer or anything else. For example I'm playing a song from the chord F minor and the next coming song will be from D minor and with the transpose buttons on my Pa1x pro I would like to change the chord on both keyboards using the transpose on my Pa1x pro only.

I know for some of you this is a piece of cake, I'm counting on you.

Thanks

Hi,

Step 1,

Connect your M3 Midi out to Midi in Pa1x, Pa800, Pa2x, Pa500 etc...

Step 2, go to your Korg pa and make sure the Midi in Filter for sysx is unchecked (global and midi in filters)

Step 3, M3 transmits data on Ch1...go to Global and press Midi then go to Midi in Ch

Now, turn off Ch1

If you followed my steps the m3 should transpose both the m3 and the Pa.

Good luck!

As far as I can understand, you must send to the M3 a "Universal system exclusive" MIDI message, and more precisely a "Master coarse tuning" message. See page 645 of the M3 Parameter Guide.

I own a PA1XPro and a M3M myself. As far as I know, due to the limited "custom tweaking" capabilities (so to say) of the PA1XPro, the only way to do that is using MIDI-OX on a PC to map one of the existing assignable functions of the PA1XPro.

For example, I use to assign "Upper VDF Cutoff" (CC#4A Hex) to the first Assignable Slider B on the PA1XPro, and MIDI-OX maps that to CC#16, which is the Ribbon Controller for the M3M.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: After writing that, I realized that my example is about normal CC messages, while you need a Universal SysEx. MIDI-OX can do the mapping anyway, but I will double-check that, or I will double-check if you can do that in some other ways directly from the PA1XPro.
