When you've selected the timbre assigned a drum, you should be able to play the keyboard and hear drums assigned to those keys. To actually have a pattern play you need to set up the pattern in the step sequencer first.

To do this you would use the select button in the arp/step sequencer section to select either step 1 or 2. Then you would push the type/step rec button. This will then ask you if you are sure. Push the rec button agian, and you'll be set. You then are at step 1. You can enter up 8 keys per step. Use the tempo key to skip a step, and you can use the dial to move quickly between steps (up to 32). Once you are done you can push exit/no to get out of it.

Now you have a pattern setup. To turn it on make sure the On button is pushed and read in the arp/step section. Now when you hold down a key your pattern will play at the set tempo. If you want this to play automatically by itself after you've pushed a key, make sure you push the latch key.

If you've done all of the above already and don't hear it once you select the timbre, you need to make sure the amp level is up for that timbre, as you can set this separately for each timbre.

Hopefully that answered your question.

Took me a while and a lot of reading to figure it out myself.
