MicroKorg USB/Midi Device Compatibility List

Post by JamesonBlade »

Hello all,

I am looking for a computer MIDI interface that is compatible with the MicroKorg and its Sound Editor freeware. I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of interfaces proven compatible with the MK and Sound Editor so that the plethora of folks bound to stumble into the forums ready to post a redundant thread can instead discover this one and find a concise answer, and so that I can make a confident purchase this time rather than shoot in the dark again.

So, what interfaces are proven working? Please specify your operating system.

I have found the following incompatible:

Lexicon Omega
Hosa Tracklink MIDI to USB

Your replies are appreciated.

so far the UNO is NOT working for me.

well, let me clarify. In Live 8 when setting up midi under the 'control surfaces' tab it doesn't list the microkorg.

Live is seeing a midi signal from the keys only but without being able to choose the microkorg as the control surface you can't assign volume or any knobs to Live.

SO not happy about this.

That does not at all mean that it is not working. All that that suggests is that Live does not have a preset 'control surface' for the MicroKorg.
If it is seeing a MIDI signal then the interface is working fine.

There have been some problems I believe regarding transmission of some messages. However in theory any interface should work because all it does is gives your computer a MIDI port. you can connect anything to that MIDI port and MIDI is a standard that has been around for over 20 years.

You don't need any 'drivers' for the microKorg or whatever you are attaching for example because the interface knows exactly what to expect because there is nothing new from MIDI - it only transmits the same basic forms of message. it is just what the controller or software or synthesiser does with the messages that are different. (Note however that you do usually need drivers for your interface, because that is the actual thing that is connecting to your PC that the computer needs to know what it does and how to talk to it)
