sound editor problem

Hi guys, I'm sure this has been covered many times on here before, but I want to save the factory presets from my Radias and then use some of the new sounds I've downloaded!
Unfortunatly I'm not sure where to start!

I've opened the sound editor program and selected a new file and then selected midi and tried to recieve all programs, but am getting recieved all programs failed, MIDI device not specified??

Please could someone help me out or point me in the right direction to other pages on the forum regarding what I'm trying to do?

you have to specify the MIDI in and out ports in the editor preferences.

in should be Radias KBD/Knob, and out should be Radias Sound.

if you don't see these ports, then you haven't installed the driver. even if you've installed the driver software from the installer file, you still need to go to start > programs > KORG > KORG USB-MIDI Driver > Install KORG USB-MIDI Device
this will associate the drivers with the radias, otherwise windows wrongly tries to use its own drivers.

Thanks x-trade, got it sorted now

Do i have to do that each time i turn on the laptop or will it save the settings now?
Would you mind explaining how to save a sound when i've selected where i want to put it?

It should remember the settings, but if it doesn't work, you now know what to do.

As for saving a program, I suppose you mean saving a program to the synth?

There are several ways to do that, but in reality it helps to know exactly how the editor and synth works.

Starting with the synth, whenever you select a program with the alpha dial or the buttons, it is immediately copied to a space in memory we call the 'edit buffer'.
this is where the active program is actually kept when you are playing. and when you change something on the synth, it changes in the edit buffer, but doesn't permanently get stored to the program, does it? that happens when you press the 'Write' button, which then copies the edit buffer to a program location (defaulting to the current program location) similarly the 'Compare' button swaps the edit buffer and the program location of the currently selected program.

When you are using the editor, selecting a program will automatically send all the program parameters to the synth, into the edit buffer.
so the most immediate way to save a program to the synth without any potential problems, is to find the slot you want to save to on the synth, navigate there. Then select the sound you want to save in the editor (you have to freshly click on it, because if you already have it selected the edit buffer will have been replaced when you navigated to the program on the synth). once you've selected it in the editor is is transfered to the synth, and so now you can write it

To recap - navigate to the slot you want to save in on the synth, then select the program in the editor. Then use the Write button to save the program to that slot.

Another way to do it is to create a new library in the editor (whilst you still have your other library with the program you want to copy to the synth). Then use your new blank library to 'Recieve All' from the synth. Once that is done, you can drag the programs you want from library to library. Obviously this is more effective than the first method when working with and rearranging multiple programs.
once you're done, select your new library and select 'Write All Programs'
