Midi files from the net

Post by navydave »

Why is it, that most of the time when I download a midi file from the net (a free one), it plays fine on the PC, but when I load it on my LE, it will not play correctly until I go into track edit (in sequencer mode) and select the "G" bank for eack track. The program change is there but the bank select just shows "---". Wonder why I have to manually put in the "G" bank on most tracks most of the time. After I do that, it plays fine. I have Bank Map set to GM under Global Preferences.
PS. I've tried GM initialize, but that just sets track 10 to drums, if the original composer even used track 10/midi ch 10 for the drums.

I guess I figured it out. If I download a file and and then do the GM initialize and the tracks arent correct, then the composer didnt follow the standard. Some do work when doing a GM initialize and all the tracks are correct.
