Upgrade procedure (KLC-1)...?

Post by Maphive »

Downloading the KLC-1 v1.1.10 updater at the moment; I'm sure it's been covered somewhere but the instructions on the download page aren't very clear... Do I need to uninstall my current (v1.0) version before trying the upgrade, or is it literally just an UPDATE to the software that's already installed? If it's just an update what's the best way to backup the .fxb and .cmap files as KORG suggests? Pop 'em on the desktop?
Surely someone out there has some experience with the process?
Thanks.

Just did a Google search for this question, found this thread: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi ... ction/10/1, which says, "I downloaded the latest update from the Korg User Net and I was forced to uninstall the software before installing the update."
So i'm assuming that the update is the complete KLC-1 new version, and not just an enhancement of the KLC-1 already on the machine.
I suppose i could just try it out and see, but i didn't want to tempt the ghost in the machine, having had a number of issues with KLC-1 so far.
Can anyone give me a confirmation?

A one man show this thread...
Just an update if this can help someone in the future: i did end up uninstalling my v1.0 KLC-1 and reinstalling from the zipped updater file (v1.1.10). Stand-alones work fine, was issued a new locking code and have just recieved my new license code from KORG USER NET. Spent last night fiddling with the precious, some great sounds...

But, a question re the VST side of things: I uninstalled (PC XP "Add or Remove Programs") the VST collection of the KLC-1 as well as the stand-alone versions before executing the update... (was i not supposed to do that? Was i supposed to wait for a prompt from the updater installation as to what to uninstall/leave in place? Maybe if i had recieved some guidance from this forum...) Now the stand-alone versions are installed and working, but my "C:\Program Files\Vst Plugins" folder only has some KLC-1 *.dll and *fxb files and no *.exe's.
To retrieve the VST versions will i have to uninstall v1.1.10, re-install v1.0 from the original CD, then (without touching that v1.0 install), run the updater and wait for the updater to let me know what needs to be uninstalled/removed/replaced?

How is it that with so many threads re upgrading, the step-by-step procedure of enabling the new version is so murky? Maybe it's just me...

Wish I could help but all I can offer are guesses.

I'm a mac man so can't give PC help. Also, when I got the very 1st version from ebay, I had an unpleasant install experience, which is now happily resolved.

To the very best of my recollection, the 1.10 version installs over the original. It's only when you start going down the dongle line that you need to uninstall using the enclosed uninstaller. However, even that didn't work as it left behind components from the original.

My limited guess/advice would be to start again. Uninstall everything, and if you're ok with fooling with the registry, get in there and remove all to do with Korg or Legacy Colllection. Then restart and reinstall. But that's a guess based on no-one else coming forward.

All the best

in windows, a VST plugin is a .dll file. there is no need for an executable as it isn't a standalone program.

a dll file is a library of code like a program, but which is designed to be linked to and used by other programs, so it has no main/run class.

I don't have the Legacy Collection, but from my experience with many other things, I'd say you simply need to completely uninstall the previous version, and install the new version. I don't think the installer is actually an 'updater'. So no need to worry about whether you should or shouldn't have installed anything, for most plugins there isn't much to 'update' as it is all inside the dll file and maybe a sample/data library or fxb file (fxb file is a steinberg vst format preset library file).

if you uninstalled the standalone and ran the new installer and it is still working, then that was probably the right thing to do.

To the best of my recollection, Windows users must always uninstall before updating the KLC software. Mac users can simply install over the old stuff.

Kind regards.

The "updates" on the korguser.net website, both Mac and PC, are really full installers.

On Windows XP, I recently did the following
1) Downloaded all the most current versions of KLC-AE2007 and KLC-DE
2) Used Windows Add/Remove Programs to remove all older KLC stuff
3) Browsed Windows directories to make sure everything was deleted
4) Installed the most current version of KLC-AE2007
5) Installed the most curent version fo KLC-DE

Regarding backups, you only need to backup files/data you modified. If you only have factory presets, you don't need to back anything up.

Finally, if you have any trouble with anything, don't hesitate contacting your Country Korg Distributor (e.g. Korg USA in the US). Your Korg Distributor is responsible for support, and they can get in touch with Korg Japan if there are any problems they can't solve.
