would we be able to upgrade our Pa50s?
...to the new Pa50SD...
http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/en/produc ... sd.html?en
I assume there is a change in the OS and of course, a new SD card reader instead of floppy.
I am curious if we can modify our old Pa50 to the new Pa50SD? That would be a great (final) upgrade to it!

WHOW, I can't believe this is happening. This means we "MAY BE" able to upgrade our PA-50 to PA-50SD (crossing my fingers) at some cost of course. But I found strange infos from KORG Website
High performance Solid-State Disk
The solid-state disk, which can hold up to 20Mb of compressed data, is the latest in disk technology and gives higher performance than ordinary Flash Rom. Plus, you can select Styles directly from the SD Card at the touch of a button - no loading operation needed.
The Solid State Disk replaces the Flash Rom and to us, it does not make big difference except saving to SSD is faster.
The picture is exactly like PA-50 except it shows PA-50SD on it. And the floppy is replaced by the SD slot. The manual explain clearly about how the SD card works, look pretty good to me.
The remaining question are: will there be an upgrade KIT for PA-50 and which one:
a) can we upgrade to use the Solid State disk ?
b) can we upgrade to have SD card slot ? [ MOST IMPORTANT ]
c) is the cost upgrade reasonable enough ?
Considering the cost of an SD card writer/reader, a few dollars, I expect the upgrade KIT cost to be under 50$, but you have to do the soldering work yourself, I am OK with that. And of course we have to load the PA-50SD Operating System on our PA-50 so it support SD card functions.
I am praying for two YES answers (I am sure many of you are too) + low upgrade cost.
If there is no upgrade of the upgrade cost is too high, I would say:
Save that money to BUY THE YAMAHA S700 or S900 or S910 (or an used PSR-1500 or PSR-3000) . The have USB thumb drives support built in. The S900 / S910 also allow to record vocal.

This Web Site showed something I have seen before (in English)
http://www.2av.com.ua/indexr.htm
Now it showed in a language I could not read. All I can tell is it's about a 256MB flash memory extension for PA-50.
How much does this cost and what is the procedure to add it in the PA-50 ?Adding hardware is not enough, the OS has to support it too.

jesepetson,
Hmm... I bet if you knew that PA-50SD is about to come out, you would have waited another 3 months. Korg did not make any pre-announcement on purpose. If they did, the PA-50 won't sell anymore.
We can all see that PA-50 is removed from www.korgpa.com page.
Now we can all just pray for the availability of an upgrade kit at reasonable cost.
I just send an email to korg support asking this specific question.

The sad news is NO, you wont be able to upgrade since there is other things
on the PA50SD, is not just the SD, it is a SSD machine and also now it is
multitasking, as on PA2X/800 on which you can LOAD styles, go to Media and
other things while the Style is playing and you Solo playing which is not
possible even on PA1X. I dont think the PA50 can be upgraded to this.

We, PA-50 owners, do not expect much from this upgrade.
Essentially the floppy functionality will replaced by SD. And that' exactly what the PA-50SD gave me this impression. Download the manual and read this section. We do not expect to play a style while loading from/storing to SD (except when playing songs which we can today with the floppy, the manual say we can load a new song while playing another song).
Part of the upgrade would be to load the PA-50SD OS on our PA-50.
Again, this is all hope. Let's see what Korg is going to offer.
With the offering of PA-50SD, all the PA-50 still on the stores shelf won't sell unless they sell at half price ha ha...

But companies are selling it at the same price... I don't understand why.
look here in Thomann.de is 628 euros either with or without SD:

Which one would you buy? I believe we all have the same answer: PA-50SD.
My guess is the stores stocked up quite a few PA-50s and not able to sell them when the PA-50SD came out. These stores have to cut the price of PA-50 to be able to sell them.
So let's all pray for the availability of the upgrade KIT at reasonable cost.
To be honest, I already got a Tyros3 which is currently considered to be the top of the line of Yamaha arranger keyboards. I don't care much about upgrading my PA-50 but I will upgrade if Korg offers it. I use PA-50 for regular gigs. The T3 only for special occasions.
