About recording R3 sounds
Hi there guys im new with Korg product.Im usind Logic pro 8,pro tools le 8 with Digidesign digirack 003+ and i wanted to know how can i record the sounds of R3 like i record first of all sounds in korg r3 then i pass it to the logic as in yamaha workstations or how can i record sounds quantized????? please help me out!!!!!
the R3 is a synthesizer and not a workstation, thus there are no sequencing or recording facilities on board.
you record it into logic just like you would a guitar or bass or any other direct line stereo device. but remember it is best in stereo. if you do it in mono you are wasting half the synth!
and like mentioned above, a good workflow is recording MIDI tracks and editing them, then sending them back out to the synth and recording the audio.
in logic for midi tracks there is an option to quantize the input.
alternatively if you get the R3 synced to logic you could use the trigger arpeggiator pattern on 100% gate as a kind of live quantizer, and just record the audio straight.

So if you record stereo and midi at the same time, are you able to edit the midi track and send it back through the Korg R3 to then get the Korg to play the synth noises back in perfect time with the altered midi track??X-Trade wrote:the R3 is a synthesizer and not a workstation, thus there are no sequencing or recording facilities on board.

Yes. But the easiest solution would be to start by not recording the stereo audio at all.
Record the MIDI. The track input should be the R3 KBD/Knob and the track output should be the R3 Sound.
Then edit the MIDI.
Now create a stereo audio track and record arm it. Hit record, and the MIDI will play back like the rest of your project's elements, and your audio will record.
Depending on your audio drivers and latency, you may want to adjust the timing slightly by shifting the audio. and make sure you mute the MIDI track after you've recorded the audio.

Yeah the correct workflow is to do everything in MIDI information, and then when you're done with quantizing, editing and so on, then record is as an audio track.
Personally, I have to add a "MIDI Delay" in Logic to the track of about 25 because for some reason my hardware and software (AU soft synths) isn't quite in sync.
