I've been reading and trying to get my head around this thread by kanthos from another forum. I'm close to getting the setup that I want, but somehow I can't figure out the one thing wich would seem to be the simplest of all. Having one damper pedal sending signals to two separate synths. (And yeah, I read every post I could find on this and spent hours in the manuals :p)
My setup is like this: I have a Korg TR61 wich is daisy chained to a Roland Juno Di. The korg is used as the master and is where the damper is connected aswell.
The damper will only work for sounds coming from the korg and only when played on the korgs keybed. I've tried changing channels and found that when both synths share the same channel the pedal will work on both keybeds, but only for the sounds generated by the korg. I've also tried connecting the damper to the juno, but with same results only reverse.
I made sure that the korg is sending signals from the pedal both in the global settings and in the settings under MIDI4.
I play in sequence mode on the korg, but tried in other modes with same outcome.

Re: Two boards sharing one damper
What do you mean by this? That you can press a key on the Juno and press the pedal connected to your Korg, and have the note sustained on your Korg?JohanHult wrote:I've tried changing channels and found that when both synths share the same channel the pedal will work on both keybeds, but only for the sounds generated by the korg.
The settings under MIDI4 are incoming only, I believe.JohanHult wrote:I made sure that the korg is sending signals from the pedal both in the global settings and in the settings under MIDI4.

Get a USB cable or MIDI interface and connect your TR to your computer. Download MIDI OX, which will monitor all incoming MIDI data. What happens if you have a combi with an EXT timbre that's not on the global channel and you press the pedal? Do you see MIDI CC #64 messages on your global channel AND the other one, or just on the global channel?
If you see CC #64 on both channels, you can get the damper into the Juno by playing in combi mode and always having EXT timbre(s) on the TR set up for the channels that the Juno will be using. (This won't work as well in sequencer mode, since you can only send on one channel at a time, so the Juno would always have to be using the same channel as the TR, which would mean that playing one keybed would trigger the sounds from both keyboards in many circumstances, which isn't always what you want).
If you can still only see CC #64 on the global channel only, you'll need to look at some other kind of hardware solution.
Keyboard Rig: Korg Kronos, Moog Sub 37, Waldorf Blofeld Module, Neo Instruments Ventilator II, Moog MiniFooger Delay, Strymon BigSky, Roland KC-150, Mackie 802-VLZ4 Mixer
Thanks for the tips on MIDI-OX kanthos, excelent program. And sorry for being a bit unclear, but you understood exactly what I meant.
In combi mode I got the korg to send damper signals on two different channels setting one of the timbres to EXT. Allthough I'm using quite few of the sequence mode features when playing live, so I don't wanna switch back to combi. Old habit you know :p
But I also see the advanteges of having one pedal for the overall sustain of the setup, but like you said, seq mode can only send on one channels at time. So my next try will be to cut the cable of the pedal and try to split it to two separate jack plugs, hooking each one to the different synths. yay :p

Just finished making a damper pedal with two jacks, and it works like a charm! Everything works much more intuitively this way (to me at least :p). And I still have controll over wich sounds that get effected by the damper by editing the midi settings on each of the synths.
It was quite an easy task connecting another jack to the damper aswell. Only two wires inside the cable, one for the signal and one for the grounding.
