K61P volume problem

Post by Chrisl »

Hello everyone,
I purchased a K61P controller keyboard for my son for Christmas along with an Audigy 4 Pro sound card. He's in another town so at the moment I cannot go check things out myself, but he tells me he has a problem getting enough volume out of his setup (computer is WinXP, 1800mhz, 500mb/ram).

He says that with the keyboard plugged into the sound card (via USB cable), he has to hit the keys pretty hard to get sound. As a hack he plugged an amp into the headphone jack output and if he turns the amp way up he can hear the keyboard...but with static, etc. since it is turned up so loud. I told him to test the keyboard with a set of headphones but haven't heard from him yet.

My question is, does anyone know of anything that might be the cause of this?

He says the sound card works perfectly for everything else, but whatever is coming from the keyboard does not seem to be making its way through the sound card. I would appreciate any suggestions on things we might check.
Thanks,
Chris

Volume Weak

Post by AI_Joe »

I just got the K61P a few days ago and the volume is extremely weak - both through the sound bank and through MIDI. With the volume knob all the way at 100%, the audio is very weak and feels like it's only at 40%. With the MIDI, I have a M-Audio Keystation 49 sharing the same bank in Reason and it seems louder from the keystation as I play them both.

Is it something to do with the velocity curve? I've gone through all the presets and nothing seems to help.

I'm considering sending it back to get something else for only this reason.

In visible silence

The K61P is just a very quiet device. I run it through a pre-amp when recording, and the background noise really isn't TOO evident, so no problem there.

Unrelated to that, my headphone jack stopped working some time ago. But since it's so quiet anyway, who needs headphones.

I think it's a nice cheapie which Korg should have kept making; it's a great starter keyboard for children especially; I don't like to start kids out with those "mini-key" contraptions.
