Recording Midi from R3

Post by benef »

Hey, my goal is to record the sounds from my R3 directly into my computer using a USB connection, and I have a couple questions:

1) Is it even possible?
2) What would be a solid program to use? (One that can record and mix multiple tracks, but you know, not ProTools)

I've tried using a simple midi recording program (Midipiano v1.4), but despite setting the Midi Out to R3 1 Sound, I couldn't get the R3 sounds out of it. I've got the Midi In part down, it's just a matter of hearing the right sounds.

Also, just out of curiosity, is it possible to convert .r3p files into midi patches?

you cant record sounds through MIDI... only MIDI through MIDI...

Hi benef,

to record the sound of your R3 as well as from most devices, you need to connect the audio out of the R3 to your PC's audio input (Line In of the soundcard)
The R3 does not sends audio data via USB. USB is used to transfer MIDI and the R3 Editors data.

You need a Music Sequencer Programm that is capable of recording audio as well as MIDI data. There a lot of them and they vary in price and capabilities.

One way to do a recording of a song is to play it on the R3 and record the MIDI data on the sequencer program, then play it back with the sequencer activating the recording of an audio track (you have to set its input to which the R3 is connected). If you prefer to record live what you play then just start recording an audio track like with a standard recorder
