Strange Radias MIDI problem WIN7 64 bit

Post by Musik Magier »

...
First... on XP all worked fine...

so but now...

I am a bit pissed lol...

I just setup the complete midi map to an Sequencer Controller (using FL Studio so it's called midi out there)

It with backlinks and so on.. so I can control the midi out with the radias and the midi out controls the radias.. and so on... (let's say "semi TI")

That tooked about 1 1/2 hour...

it worked all testet it all was fine...

then I realised I can't use the Sound Editor at the same time using FL... (tweaking sounds "offline" is not always the best way), well but it worked in XP... ahh the Korg Midi driver isn't installed correctly... it was called something like Radias Midi in and not Radias KBD and so on...

So I installed the newest version from the page... hard to find btw.. I found it somewhere in the chaos pad area...

Installed... ahhh now it has the old names like under XP.. Radias Sound and Radias KBD ...

now also the editor works together with FL.. like under XP....

BUT !!! now everytime I click play or stop or what ever... the Radias makes only a noise sometimes gated sometimes at less level.. sounds like all OSCs are suddenly noise generators.. but even if I turn the levels down the noise continues...
and it does even when I don't have the sound editor opened...

I am very sorry that this thread sounds a bit offensive... but I am sitting here for 3 1/2 half hours, just to realize that at the end of this "simple mapping session" my whole setup won't work any longer...
I can't use the Radias... because every time I press play or something like that... all the sound is lost... so my Radias is useless at the moment....
well I still can use it as a Midi Controller but then that was a real real expensive Midi Controller !!!

...
oh I just see this forum is not affiliated with korg... ok.. then I have to search for the real support... I hope it is good... because If you buy a thing for almost 2000€ it should be...

but maybe you have an Idea what to do, too

Hey there, not sure this will help, but have you checked to see that it's not your soundcard? Are you using ASIO drivers, have you checked on your settings to decrease latency?

Sounds implementation from XP to Vista/Win 7 are vastly different. It is unfortunate, but A LOT of cards that worked fine on XP have many problems on Win 7. (Read mainly Creative cards)

Since you're using FL Studio, make sure you are using ASIO drivers and not he default primary sound drivers.

Who knows it might help.

yes I use asio drivers... also it is not an audio bug.. it's a midi bug.. because when I change the preset of the Radias.. it sounds like it should.. till I push stop or play in the sequencer again... then some weird data is send to the radias and it makes only SHHSTSHSTHSHHHSSHSHHSH till I load a preset again... so some strange data is send to the radias which let make it only noise...

I also don't have any problems with any other audio input or midi devices..

I mean even the Radias worked fine till I updated the drivers... which I had to because the old ones are not correctly readout under win7 so the sound editor blocks the midi port...

I will try to controll the radias over a normal "oldstyle" midi cable in a while and not over usb... but not today ;)... if it then works I have a work around but it's still strange...

but thanks for your thinking about that problem, also when it doesn't help.

(btw. I suggest everyone who uses a creative card and win7 to update the drivers... when I got my new pc fresh.. I had some problems too... after I updated the drivers for my X-Fi there are realy 0 problems anylonger.... and !! DON'T TRUST the windows updates...!... I updated something in windows which realy has nothing realy nothing to do with the Soundcard.. it was something with an Installation error message with displays sometimes but isn't realy an error... well after I updated that... it destroyed my soundcard driver.. my system even didn't recognize that I had a soundcard in there... so I had to made a system recovery and install the first driver from the windows installpage... so it can recognize it is a X Fi after that I could use the auto update of creative... and then it worked all again like it should... ohhh and turn your monitor speakers off if they are selfpowered with full amp... because the windows driver install for the soundcard suddenly switch all the output to 100% and turn the microphone on    it was LOUD !! and I am glad my speakers didn't broke...)

however beside that side story all works very very well in terms of audio and soundcard and so on.... also in terms of midi for all devices... only the Radias gives me now headache..

but however I am also more focused on softsynths because it's just more comfortable in workflow...

I wished and I still wish lol... the RADIAS would be TI, that would be an realy amazing.. more than amazing synth then.

btw. I don't understand this problem.. because I never had problems with Korgs hardware and the driver things and so on... but this time there is something weird... I even understand if Korg don't has an answer for this... because it's so crazy.

ohh and if there is some FL user outthere with a RADIAS, and you want the MIDI out preset or even the whole template (with backlinks to the radias, but ofcourse the midi input port and channels and so on can differ) you can write me a PM I would send it then to you... so you don't have to look for 1 1/2 hours on the midi mapping page of the radias lol :) (if you didn't changed it)

I wouldn't mind a copy of that.

Sorry the advice didn't help.

(Concerning the sound card drivers, my problem stems from an issue creative hasn't been able to resolve for 2 years now. Basically when your system has more than 4gigs of RAM and is running x64 software, their are issue with sound playback.)

Hopefully you figure it out. It sounds like a driver issue though. As the driver responsible for sending/reading MIDI data is the RADIAS driver.

I would send an email to Korg, mentioning all the details. It sounds like they would be the best one to get it working.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with Cubase 5 and my Radias. When I startet to record a track some noises (like explosions) were recorded with the Radias sound. It turned out to be the MIDI clock setting: If you set it to AUTO, then the tempo on the Radias is set to the Patch's tempo. When you press start on your DAW, the Radias changes the tempo to the DAWs one, which usually is different. When you press stop, the Radias turns to the internal clock again. Such tempo changes make that all effects that are tied/synced to the tempo, change abruptly their internal processing creating starnge sounds.

When I work with my DAW then I change the setting to external (USB or MIDI depending how the Radias is connected to the DAW)

I hope this Helps

my Radias is set und external...
Since the first day...

I had another problem on auto or was it internal.. dont know.. however.. the problem was that the clock was hearable on the audio signal when the usb was plugged.. something like dshhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I immidiantly changed to external usb clock... and that problem was gone... but like I said that was on the first day :) something like 4 or 5 years agao..

So thanks to you too... but thats also not my problem :)

(but maybe someone else.. so it's good that it stands here)
