I've only had my r3 for 3weeks and I've come to the conclusion the presets are really bad and are too digital, so i have had to edit a lot of the ones I think are ok.
On ebay, I can buy an ms2000 used for about the same price I paid for the r3, as i got the r3 really really cheap from usa
What do i do!?
Ive looked at downloading the ms2000 presets but I don't think i'll get that better/nastier tone?
thanks!
Selling a Korg R3 for an Ms2000?

Well, the MS2000 presets are not the same as they would sound on the MS2000, because the R3 is producing them. That said, you should at least try them!
You can get sweet analog-sounding patches on the R3, but it takes a bit more programming. I personally like this because I don't always need fat analog sounds, especially when making music entirely from synthesized sources. As I always say, it gives you a choice.
That said the MicroKorg and MS2000 are really nice. I would like to buy one at some point for my studio, but I don't think I could replace the Radias with it. the MicroKorg and MS2000 have four note polyphony (two when layered), a fixed effects section that is shared by both layers, only one filter, you don't get to choose the type of modulation for each oscillator wave - like waveform, cross, unison, etc. It is instead a preset type of modulation for each waveform.
It does definately sound more analog straight out the box. If you want ease of use and you can live with less flexibility, then go for it. But you'd be better off getting it in addition to your R3.
If I had one I'd use it as a bass and lead machine, leaving pads, drums, rhythms, etc to the Radias.

Yeah I just don't want to say i regretted buying the r3 because im sure its a great synth i guess i just have to hook it up to the computer and have a fiddle with it. I play in a band and when we play i dont need to do any editing, i basically do that before, but wer not an electro/trance band wer more post-punk/rock, something similar to kasabian.
but yeah maybe in the near future, il sell the r3 once i know more bout synths, or buy a nord lead 2x is i can afford it

Hi jake,
I wouldn't change an R3 for other synth! (except for a Radias like in my case)
