KORG PA800 - Fill in 1, 2, Break

Post by quyduy »

Hi there

I just bought a PA800. Im having a trouble; When I press "fill in" 1 or 2 while playing a style, the "fill in" do not match the rhythm. How can I fix this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Some "fill in" are not really done or won't suit with the idea you have in your mind. It's not just the PA series, but every arranger keyboards.

Also, it's better to start the fill in just before the 1st beat of the next measure so you won't hear any weird breaks. If you want to launch a fill in inside the current measure, you should push the switch exactly on a beat.

Fill in 1 and 2

Thanks for your reply,
I had the Yamaha PSR S550, the fill in worked so smoothly, whenever I select the fill in, it starts at the next measure, so I thought there is some set up of PA800 that I missed out.
Cheers

I'm not sure you can adjust the way the fill ins are launch.
I would say that maybe the PA800 is more a pro keyboard than the s550. So it need a new learning curve but it is probably more powerfull ...

You have 3 choices :

1) immediate , first measure
2) immediate, current measure
3) next measure, first measure

experiment with all , and choose what you want

That's some nice options, but I can only see them available in the record mode page of a style. So if you prefer the "next measure, first measure" option like quyduy seems to apreciate more, you have to edit the factory styles and save them in user banks. Or is there another way ?

Yes, you can apply those changes to the factory styles or to user styles. If you want to make the changes to factory settings, i think you have to first unlock something in the global section...so that you'll be able to overwrite the factory settings. I never use factory styles, so haven't tried it myself. But i'm sure it's possible.

Korg's arranger fill in/breaks are not as smooth as Yamaha's.
For one..Yamaha has 4 fills per style. There is some parameters you can adjust to make the filles work better/different..but it is by style not global.

One other thing..read the manual thoroughly more than once..there's a lot there, that Yamaha does not offer!

Now back to building my house. I'll be done soon and can have a normal life again? Whatever normal is?
