Does a Micro X really sounds like a Triton?
I mean, does it has the same sound quality or it is just the synthesis and an approximation to the actual sound quality of the Triton?
I have a Micro X, but sometimes I found the sound made up with effects in an exaggerated way, or sometimes eventhough it sounds better than my ex n364, it sounds more tiny at the same time compared with that keyboard, with less harmonics (like a song of Madonna in a mp3 with low quality, it sounds great, but the quality is not enough (you can realize it listening the bell section of the Micro X)). It is great for the price and I get a lot of fun from it, nothing to say and no regrets, but I was wondering this in order to buy other Korg and pay more for more sound quality...
Thanks!!

Not sure about all the technical differences with regards to DACs and such, but the rest of the triton series and the new M3 and M50 (excluding the MicroX, X50/TR, and Triton Le) have five insert effects, which results in a much more polished sounds. By comparison, all the low-end spinoffs have a mere one.
Even the presets that are the same were greatly reprogrammed to compensate for the lack of insert effects.
They did however double the wave ROM with an improved piano and strings and other waveforms.
IMO the Triton series does have a kind of gritty, dark quality, but I wouldn't necesarily call it lo-fi.

Hi
The MicroX has the same engine (HI) and 32MB ROM from the Triton. Also has a new 32MB ROM (a total of 64MB ROM)
The big difference is on the fx proccessor, the MicroX does have only one (1) allowing a 3-band EQ, 2 Master effects, and 1 Insert fx. The Triton has 2 fx proccessors adding 4 Insert fx.
That's the only difference in the sound.
The others synths with the same configuration than the MicroX are the X50 and TR (also I'm not sure if the 2nd 32MB ROM are the same) and the Triton Le, but only with the same 32MB ROM from the Triton Classic.
Regards.
Alvaro.

The first 32MB ROM of the MicroX, X50 and TR is the same 32MB ROM from the Triton Classic and Le. The same samples. Only the 2nd 32MB ROM is new, but you could find all the same samples from the Triton Classic and Le on your MicroX/X50/TR.
Also you could apply them the same filters, LFO and EG.
The only difference in the treatment of the sound is on the fx section. The Triton (Classic, Studio, Extreme) have 2 fx processors allowing it 8 FXs (1 3-bandEQ, 2 Masters and 5 Inserts). The Triton Le, TR, X50, MicroX only have 1 FX processor allowing 4 FXs (EQ, 2 Msters, 1 Insert).
That's the only difference. If you note a poor quality on the samples, you should also note that poor quality on any Triton.
About the FXs, the MicroX, X50 and TR share a lot of programs and combis with the Triton Le and they are designed to work with 1 insert. Also the new 32MB ROM contains a new piano sample from the session of the OASYS and a few more.

You get what you pay for. And in my humble opinion the X-50 and the Micro-X are both good bargains. But they were never intended to compete with high-end boards.
They are a good stepping stone between a cheaper Casio board, and a high-end arranger or workstation.

With respect you are talking rubbish. You should look at the rest of your setup to see where the fault lies. The MicroX (and X50) sounds and sound quality are excellent irrespective of the price. Go and try some other romplers and see.

I think my X-50 sounds AWESOME!
I have no idea how it compares to a Triton, because I've never heard one. I know a Triton was a higher-level keyboard than the X-50, but it's also older so who knows. From what I do know, I would not trade my X-50 for a Triton given the opportunity.
I said you get what you pay for. But honestly with the X50 and the MicroX, you get a lot more than you pay for.

I totally agree,
I think the MicroX is an awesome piece of kit.
I’ve been creating some drum patterns lately using the arpeggiator and the more I read the manual and tinker with settings the more impressed I become.
Ace for the price, and the size is perfect for my environment.
I love some of the bass arpeggios you can create.
