[R3] All programs suddenly passed in mono !!

Post by Kazy »

Hello guys,
I had a really bad surprise when I switched the power on my R3 some minutes ago. Everything is played mono. I tried to link it to my macintosh with jacks, to listen with headphones, to reset all data... it ain't getting better. I don't understand what's going on, everything was normal the last time I used my synth.
Nevertheless, I formated my hard disk and installed the last version of the software meanwhile. Could it be a bad configuration or something like this ? I also installed the Kaoss Pad 3 software. Could it be any conflict between both ?

Thank you in advance for your help !

Well, the sound only goes out from the left output so I guess it means monophony.

You tried swapping the leads around in case the right output lead has become broken?

Monophony is when you can only play one note at once. Monoaural is where the sound is single channel - i.e. not stereo.

If you've checked your leads and speakers and sockets then you may need to get an engineer to look at the sockets on the R3.
Check whether you get sound if you wiggle the cable or the connection, or whether it feels securely plugged in too.

I've just tried to set the Panpot right, and it comes to the right hear though. But not as louder than the left one.
The problem is the same with earphones, that's what is strange. Makes me wonder if it wouldn't be an internal problem...

Oh yup that's right, stupid I am.

Well I think I'm gonna contact the after-sales service because I tried and looked around some solutions and nothing did work...

I had a similar problem with my KORG EMX-1, and contacted a sevice place about it... and they weren't thrilled with me asking them to fix it (WHAT THE F*CK?), so I sold it on eBay as broken...

Unfortunately, it seems that nobody wants to fix KORG stuff, because they are "designed to break completely" when they do malfunction. I think that is a bunch of *hooey*, but that's what the tech said. Korg stuff is great fun, and cheap, therefore, once it breaks, buy a new one...

I'm just sayin good luck with repairs, mang.

Another thing too. With my EMX-1, the sound did come back to stereo, but then it went monuraul whenever it wanted to. SOOOOooooo.... :(

Who knows? Maybe you'll have a MUCH MUCH better repair experience then I did.
GEAR I HAVE: KORG RADIAS Keyboard, Roland JX-3P, Roland TR-505, Roland TR-626, Yamaha DGX-220, Yamaha Trombone

GEAR I'M INTERESTED IN: (Possibly a trade for any of the above?) KORG ESX-1, Yamaha MOTIF XS, Yamaha MU-100 Rack, Vintage Gear Dead or Alive: TB-303, Any other Roland TR-x0x Drum Machines, x0xb0x, ANY vintage synthesizers.

i have got something similar on my Trinity, suddenly all program/combi where only on Left Channel... at the end it turned out it was "just" a connector inside the board that gone a little misplaced. i just reconnect correctly and stereo sounds come back. no need of tech assistance.

open R3 and have a look inside. maybe is just something going disconnected.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I noticed that some other R3 users had the same issue reported on the forum, but there's no solution.
Hmmm that is not very reassuring.
I wouldn't dare to open it myself for now, I think I'm gonna try to make it repair first.
By the way, I found on the web someone who had a similar problem here and who successfully fixed it :

Didn't work for me, but I put the link here if it can help someone someday.
